I can;t see him accepting 2.5 less than Gallagher, term helps and elevation to 1st line helps, but his agent will say no.

Didn't Danault already turn down 6 yr x 5 mil... You're likely looking at a 6 yr x 6.5 mil to start the conversation, likely closer to Kevin Hayes contract (7 mil)

One could make the case that $33mm is more than Pageau money ($30mm). It’s total dollars over a career that matters most in the end. The style of play that Danault and Pageau both play, it’s entirely possible to envision Pageau retiring after his current contract. 100% impossible to predict.

Gallagher: $39mm.
Danault: $33mm.

An appropriate comparison of their value, I would argue.

That’s prob the max Bergevin could or would pay for Tatar, no more than 3 years. The team above has over $4mm in cap space, and I have no problem doing whatever it takes to keep the cap hit as low as possible for Danault, including going up in term.

Tatar won't be back, Caufield will be in a full time position with habs next season on his ELC.
Chariot will probably be gone next season to Seattle. (-3.5M)
Armia won't be back, Anderson does what Armia does way better, you can find a cheaper 4th line guy
Staal will probably retire or at the least won't be back with the Habs. Evens is a very capable 4th line center making little money
Gustafsson will not be back and Merill will probably want a little more money

The question mark is Danault. I personaly woudn't sign him for more than 4 years at 4M/year. That being said, Habs can probably find a 3rd line center in free agency for 3-4M so Danault probably doesn't come back.

I think whoever is GM next year has to get rid of Drouin. Waist of money. For 5.5 M you can get youself a 25 goal scorer
