CGY
  1. Tuch, Alex
Additional Details:
I've seen this idea earlier, but I think it's closer to a 1-for-1-trade value-wise or maybe with a modest addition on Vegas' side because of Monahan's position.

Tuch : 2.28 P/60, 1.25 xG/60, 55.6 xG%
Monahan : 2.05 P/60, 0.94 xG/60, 50.8 xG%

On a three-year span I do give the edge to Monahan, but, on the other hand, Tuch is more of a late bloomer and Calgary may be tempted to shake up if they miss the playoffs.

I think that would be a mistake for Vegas. Tuch is locked up longer and is a better player imo, especially come playoffs

I don't disagree that it's fairly close with the contract giving the edge to Tuch likely. The big reason I tried to include Smith in the earlier deal is that this goes the opposite direction in terms of helping VEgas with their cap situation. I could potentially see Calgary retaining on Monahan with it only being 2 years left on the deal.

Gee, Monahan has been meh for two seasons. Vegas keeps the younger, longer term, better cap hit Tuch over the Monahan easily.

I don't think Vegas' cap situation is that bad. I paid a luxury 6th dman 2m$ and I kept Fleury. It could even be possible to bring back Martinez and trade for Monahan if Fleury is dealt

The lack of a prime offensive center could also bite them at some point

they have krebs, and monahan isn't very good. especially not for tuch, who's on an amazing contract for term and is a far better player

I wouldn't say "meh". He's still a high-caliber center who has not exceeded the expectations set by his previous seasons. When I think of "meh" centers, Duchene, Johansen or D. Strome, not Monahan

Not sure if Krebs will be better than Monahan during the next three years or so. You're either way overvaluing Krebs or way undervaluing Monahan.

As a Flames fan I would strongly consider this trade given that the Flames are looking for a winger although Tuch isn't right handed shooting. I wonder if we would see a conditional pick involved along the same lines of the Lucic/Neal trade pick where like if Monahan has x points and Tuch has x less, then CGY gets a 3rd or vice versa.

Tuch is a right hand shot.

Monahan's also been playing injured tbis season, likely getting surgery in the offseason

Lol Tuch is right handed and plays 2-3 mins less than Monahan a night. No thanks

I don't see it that way. They have Glass and Krebs who could be that for them. They have so much offense from their wingers and D that having a super offensive center isn't really necessary

You're optimistic if you think Krebs could be as good as Monahan in the next 3 years. Cody Glass has played 66 games and is below replacement level

krebs should be a 2C in ~2 years, probably third line calibre next year

monahan is a 2c like.... at best. doesn't drive play at a high level, no standout physical traits, isn't a lethal goal scorer or premier defensive guy.

ig it depends who you ask but his contract is an overpayment imo

Krebs will be a more valuable player imo. I see him as a 50 point guy but he has way more heart and hustle than Monahan.
