Zucker's been a trainwreck this year, dont see any team paying for him and he might even cost an asset for Seattle to take him

He really hasn’t been. He’s been generating chances if you watch him, and that JJJ line has been dominating possession since inception. He’s snake bitten and can’t get a goal, but I’m confident he will break through. I will gladly keep Zucker. No complaints there.

Fair enough, ill take your word for it. Do you protect Zucker in expansion then? And if so who do you expose between McCann and Tanev?

Right now pens protect:

Crosby/Geno/Jake/Rust/Kap/McCann/Bluegar
Letang/Dumo/MP

Exposing Tanev and Zucker

However, I think pens may use MP as a trade chip to save Zucker or Tanev from Seattle. Pens have more organizational depth at LHD than we do at F.

Dumo/Matheson/POJ

Can be our left hand side next year

Of course, everything depends on the playoffs.

He's absolutely playing a lot better now than he was to start the year. That was a complete train wreck. Still, it's only been a few games so the Penguins have been outscored and out chanced by a good margin with him on the ice this year. And even now that he's playing well, it's not quite what you would want from a 5.5 million player. Too many pucks being fumbled and scoring chances being missed.

Zucker would be a good player to have at 3 million or something but 5.5 is just way too much in a flat cap world.

I don't know where people keep trying to get this idea from.
The guy is basically on his career high pace for 5v5 goals and everyone is trying to rip the guy.
What the hell do you want from the guy?
They traded for a guy who could net roughly 20 goals in 5v5 play. They got a guy who can next roughly 20 goals in 5v5 play.
What's the problem?

this is the best we can say about his play right here. But you are leaving out a lot.
Like the 88.2 save % behind him. Like FFS, stop the puck.
It doesn't help they put him on a line with Malkin who can play half assed defense. But even Malkin isn't coughing up that many goals. So you have to wonder how many of those came in with other people at C.
It is what it is. I think I would rather play him with Crosby at this point than trade him for nothing.
