Thats a hard no from Calgary,.
1. They wont rebuild right after the Markstrom contract.
2. You dont sell your 23 year old top 10 LW and future captain in a rebuild

By the way, I do find it unlikely the sabres trade the pick, but wanted to take the idea for a spin and try to find a player id be comfortable dealing it for with atleast a valid reason why the other team would do it (i am aware people will disagree with it, but maybe look up what valid means)

3.) please explain that to all the people trading buffalos 24 year old captain who is under contract for 5 years in order to rebuild.

Also see my post from a few seconds after yours.

Love the idea here, but i think itll cost more for Tkachuk. We'd also have to protect Risto instead of Borgen ( who's not eligible for the draft ) bc Anaheim already has a bunch of defensemen they want to protect. And Jake Allen also will likely be selected by SEA too so a 2nd is way more than what id offer.

the point of trading for allen is to get him instead of Seattle. Look at buffalos record when a goalie other than ullmark plays. its well worth it. We would protect allen because Ullmark is a UFA and will sign after the draft.

Borgen is absolutely eligible. He has been under contract for 3 years.

Here is a helpful tool in seeing the rules: https://www.capfriendly.com/expansion-draft-faq

According to the SEA expansion tool Borgen needs to play 20 more games, idk if thats true or not but. And theres good back-ups in FA too that wont cost a 2nd.

Its not true. The sabres need to have atleast 1 defensemen, 2 forwards and a goalie who meet games played thresholds to be exposed, but that doesn't mean there cant be other players exposed or protected. That means Borgen couldnt be the only defenseman exposed by buffalo, not that hes exempt. Seattle has to take 20 players that are under contract, but take 30 players overall.

1. Tkachuk would be built around in the rebuild as well as Lindholm, Mangiapane Dube, Hanifin,Andersson and a few others
2. Tkachuk wouldn't sign that. He isn't going to sign a long term contract with what is currently the worst team in the league. He will want out of there ASAP

Funny, I put my specific reasoning a post and not one single person responds to it.

Funny, no one looks at the 5 goalies that played, the fired coach, the covid outbreak, eichel missing over half the year and playing hurt every minute he was on the ice. and then no one looks at the actual roster I assembled. You honestly think this team I put together is bad?

it's not bad, but it certainly isn't "good".

Montreal has gone a decade without a solid backup, so they say no. Unless Kraken tips their hand and says they will take him. Still then I would try to keep Allen.

It is highly likely he is taken. You'd rather pay to keep a backup goalie then get a 2nd and simply replace him with a dozen guys who are UFA?

After this past weeks abysmal games by the entire team, I've gone completely 180 degrees, he's yours. Only chance he wouldn't be is if we can convince Seattle to take Price instead with a couple sweeteners. Would only know right before the expansion draft though.

no, but it will depend how things play out. Unfortunately neither of us are privy to those phone conversations. So it is wait and see, on what the Kraken will do or as you proposed move him for a 2nd.

then what do you do?

Price has a NMC, so he must be your one protected goalie. Allen will be unprotected. Do you pay seattle not to take him or get paid for someone else to take him?

so you will lose him for nothing, rather than getting a top 60 pick for him?

Small point cause you got a lot going on in the comments here, Tkachuk's deal will be at least 9 million because that is what he will be earing in the final year of his contract.

I have to say, your reasoning of "giving him away" as a reason not to do a trade, but a reason to lose him for nothing to Seattle makes about no sense.

I totally understand what you mean avout Eichel and thats why I aboid making Eichel threads myself. However I do think there is some difference in situations here, Calgary is not in a position where they can scorch earth due to some long term deals on prime aged players. Whereas Buffalo is mostly a young core and may be able to get away with it. I dont think they should trade Eichel but they definitely need to change something.
