Wasnt that bad of a Trade

Description
The Larsson for Hall trade wasn't that bad, Taylor Hall was a cancer in the locker room and was a big reason why the Oilers keep change coaches and when McDavid was playing his rookie season Hall couldn't stand not being the best player on the team. Also Adam Larsson has been pretty good this year and before Hall got traded to Boston Larsson actually had more goals then Hall. Larsson has been a sold presence on defence for the Oilers the past few years. The Hall for Larsson was still a bad trade but it wasn't Chias worst (trading the 16th pick in 2015 was his worst) the only then that bothers me is that the Oilers totally could have gotten a unprotect 1st round pick along with Larsson and the Devils and the 1st overall pick that offseason, but then again if the Oilers already drafted a forward in 2017 with the 1st pick they may not picked Yamamoto at 22nd instead going for a defenceman.

I know that I am just trying to point out that it wasn't Chais worst and that the Larsson has been important player for the Oilers and their where reason for the Oilers to Trade Hall

Trading for Reinhart was worse but if you keep Hall I don’t think you ever sign Lucic which turned into Neal

The problem with the Hall-Larsson trade was the Oilers should have gotten extras added. Same with the Eberle for Strome. When you are trading the better player (at the time) you need to get those extra picks or prospect.

Let's say Chia pushed for NJD protected first rounder in 2017. Hall + 2017 3rd rounder for Larsson + 2017 1st (protected). 2017 NJD win lotto pick pushed to 2018 17th OA. Oilers now select Bouchard at #10 and Ty Smith at #17. 2019 draft rolls around Oilers are selecting 8th overall and already have a promising LD prospect in Smith. They now have the option of selecting Zegras or Knight instead of Broberg.

Eberle trade Eberle for Strome+2nd rounder should have been the minimum. 2017 NYI 2nd rounder had LW prospects like Comtois, Formenton, Volkov taken in the 46-50 range.

Chiarelli got roasted on every important trade he made except the Talbot trade 2nd and 3rd gave Oilers a starting goalie for 3 years.

A much worse trade was giving away Jordan Eberle for what ended up being Sam Gagner when all was said and done. Oilers panicked and gave up on Strome

it was bad and theres no way around it

u dont trade a 1OA drafted player who despite the cancer is really good for a Dman who was alright but not even in the top 10. Oilers should have asked for way more but literally they got fleeced

if adam larsson was on another team and the oilers got him for taylor hall, perhaps it looks bad but this season though they miss scoring on the wing has been better defensivily

The cancer-in-the-locker room crap is perpetuated by beat writers that more frequently carry water for the Oilers organization than actually report on the team. The likes of Gregor, Jones, Rishaug, and Staples shouldn't have press credentials. They're abysmally horrible at their jobs and very frequently defer to grasp at straws and anecdotal arguments to justify piss-poor moves this organization makes. If it's not coming from Lowetide, DNB, or Willis, it might as well be farts. The reporting around this club has become ridiculously poor, and it correlates with how bad the team was over the past decade.

Edmonton's coaching carousel has a lot more to do with the inconsistency of upper management and routinely piss-poor results. Quinn was fired before Hall got here, Renney's contract simply wasn't renewed and the club made zero progress under him, Krueger was unceremoniously fired by upper management (again, nothing to do with Hall), and Eakins was a genuine disaster not apt for NHL employment (he continues to show this with the Ducks). Nelson was an interim coach. None of that has to do with Hall. It might be time to put the Journal and the Sun down and to wean yourself off of OilersNow. The guys on 630Ched are no better, specifically Stauffer. The man does nothing but act as a mouthpiece for the organization. Pay for the Athletic. It's very, very worthwhile.

Hall is one of the best players in the league: he's genuinely the best player at generating primary assists. Larsson has streaks where he's a great shutdown defender and streaks where he's genuinely one of the worst defencemen in the league. Oilers fans en masse have been sold the exact opposite. Why did Hall excel with McDavid in the World Championships against NHL opposition but apparently couldn't in the NHL (hint: they only got an hour of playing time together total)?

It will always be Chiarelli's second-worst trade as Oilers GM. There's no way out of that. Larsson is replaceable and might not be back next season. Meanwhile, the Oilers struggle with offensive depth beyond Draisaitl and McDavid. The difference Hall could have made since the day they traded him is astronomical. If you can't isolate how shooting percentages work or how bad of a club Buffalo has been this year, there'll never be any convincing you otherwise. It's not even a matter of differences in opinion, it's a lack of honesty on your part. You're cherry-picking parts of an argument to try and justify a bad trade.
