If SEA thinks they can sign Heinen for less than QO. I think Henrique and Silfverberg contracts are too much. Shattenkirk’s is iffy. Stolarz might be an option.

Why would the Canes need or want Rakell?

You’re right. Teams should never want good players. My bad.

With the lineup that the Canes have there is just no need for him.

Cirelli is an upgrade over Steel and Konecny might be an upgrade over Ricky but is that worth removing Manson and a first? And to take on more salary? Also, Carolina is in good cap position, why are we eating salary on Ricky? His contract is one of his most valuable assets. I really don't mean to pick on your moves but I just don't see how this makes us better.

You really just want to keep everyone and hope the team magically becomes good don’t you?

Not even remotely. Gibby, Zegras, and Drysdale are the only players I wouldn't consider moving. This team sucks. Bad. Big changes need to be made. These are just lateral moves.

One of Rico/Silvy has to go. Among Terry, Comtois, Steel, Jones, Larsson, Lundestrom and Volkov, we need like three of them. I would like to see several of these guys packaged into a quality vet or two. Ricky and Mans are highly sought-after players and returns for them should reflect that. We don't need to trade either of them so if we do it better be for better players or lots of futures. What you're suggesting gives us neither.

Bottom line is either should be turning our young assets into vets who can actually make this team better or just absolutely tear this team down and do a proper rebuild.

Adding Rakell would be great but I don’t see us moving the 1st.

I figure it’s late in a poor draft. And you get him for just over 1.8M and CAR is already loaded with young talent and a very good prospect pool.

Ugh, this is why I shouldn't try to have adult conversations with children.

Vet = not a rookie. I.e. someone with NHL experience that can play a prominent role right now. If we're not developing our young players into quality vets (which we aren't with a number of them) then we need to turn them into players we know are quality vets. Or we can just let them continue to sputter and lose value while we replace our vets with guys who are just like them. You know this team is really bad right and our young "core" is a big reason for that, don't you?
