If I'm CLB I 100% ask for Cozens as a start for Laine

IMO BUF will have to target players who have nothing left to lose, because the «better» options won't be interested in going to BUF...

A guy like Gusev could fit in BUF for instance

I would prefer we do almost anything else

Play olofsson, ruotsalainen, mittelstadt and Thompson at RW

Well I do have Thompson as a Right-wing, Olofsson is very good on the power play meh 5v5, If I was to do something different with Mittelstadt it would be to bump him up to 3rd line center and move Cozens to the right-wing with either Asplund or Girgenson moved to 4th line center.

The rule of thumb is "no top-6 C, no Laine". I'm kind of back-and-forth on whether or not that's sufficient value such that we can ignore the rule, but mostly leaning towards "no" - mostly because RW is not a position of need here.

So you are concerned with olofsson yet you trade the first pick of the draft and Jack Quinn for laine?

You can have all the rules you want, but despite this posters thoughts, you aren't getting the 1st pick in the draft and last year's 8th overall for a guy with 10 goals who is one dimensional

Horrendous Columbus trade! Top 3 pick, our best prospect, and a 2nd for potato Laine? No way anyone wants to pay Laine on his next contract and tbh his value right now is either the 1st or Quinn definitely not both. Much rather keep our high pick and promising young prospect

I was just commenting on the Jackets' perspective. Whether or not it makes sense for Buffalo is not something I'm really able to comment on because I don't know Buffalo's prospect situation well enough. Judging by some other reactions here, though, it's... a tad heavy to say the least.

Hey since you are Bluejackets fan maybe you can explain the Jets trade - I thought you won on value but I always thought Laine was never a Torts type guy so there would be an extra move like Laine going to LAK, I was surprised when it was just a straight trade not surprised he wasn't a match with Torts.

The short version is the very concept of "a match with Torts" is absurd and overused as an excuse; the one thing necessary to get along with John Tortorella is to be honest and put in one's best effort at all times, and Laine has been pretty decent at that.

Well if he's a match for Torts then you are right there is no excuse for his lack of production and I have overpaid -I thought Torts was holding him down but meh offense plus lack of grit and defense makes him worth no more than a mid-first round pick.
