I mean considering teams know the position they’re in, they likely won’t have to give up much to get him. Or they’ll have to pay seattle a decent amount for them not to take him.

Caps can probably get a 2nd for him. He's young, good, and most importantly cheap as hell.

But what would be Seattle’s motivation to then not select him from Toronto. I’d certainly like Vanecek’s upside over Holl, Dermott or Kerfoot. And the Leafs are already protecting Campbell.

Maybe trade happens after?
Or We expose Hutchinson with incentive.

Either way I think Seattle takes Kerfoot from Leafs.

Before the expansion draft?? Toronto pays for Vanecek from Washington and then pays Seattle not to take either Campbell or Vanecek. One of the problems of having a good expansion roster, Kerfoot, Engvall or Dermott, is one player, Vanecek or Campbell, really stick out...

If Venecek is still on WSH during the draft he will most likely be selected. I am all for trying to add him but the expansion draft really complicates things

You could be right.
I just want to feel out cost to acquire Vamecek.

Totally agree but let’s be real the only reason WSH would even consider moving him is because he could be lost for nothing. Why would the Leafs help them out to only put themselves into a difficult decision. Cause if there is no draft no chance WSH trades him

Vanecek is four years younger than Campbell, has more wins, and is almost as good at the other box-cars. If it were my team, I'd be tempted to protect Vanecek. The trade price to protect a 29 year old mid-priced goalie who's tied for 18th in wins is gonna be lower than the trade price for Seattle not to take a 25 year old cheap goalie who's tied for 6th in wins. Even though Campbell is ahead in spct and GAA. I think there are a few decent goalies available, and Francis might not see Campbell as a big upgrade over Holtby or Allen.

Goalies are incredible hard to project. But all I know is Jack Campbell is now 14-2-1 with a 2.14 GAA and .925 SV%. If I am the Leafs he is my #1 going forward.

I agree that Campbell starts over Hutchinson or Andersen. Allen is 23-11-12 in the playoffs, and has a 30 win season. Holtby is 50-47-0 in the playoffs with a Cup, a Vezina, and five 30 win seasons, twice leading the league in wins with more than 40. Campbell is one year younger than them, is finally breaking out as a 1B, and is tied for 18th in wins in a short season, with 14 of them. If you ran Seattle, who do you pick?

Depends who the Leafs make available on defense, maybe but given the weak center options likely available to Seattle, I agree Kerfoot gets picked if he's exposed.

If I’m Seattle I look at Talbot, Allen, DeSmith, Hill, Vanecek, and possibly FA Mrazek (ties to Francis) or even Freddy. Who knows, maybe VGS looks to shed cap space and trades Flower to another expansion team 🤷‍♂️

Ideally, the Leafs somehow get tired of Liljegren and offer a one for one. Then WSH, without Vanecek, loses Schultz or Jensen and has some good competition between TVR and Liljegren for the 3RD spot in camp. Don't see that happening, but I think it'd be great for the Caps if it did.
