Not an Avs fan but I agree with the sentiment here, I see the same issue on the Jets, not enough guys that can push back against physical play.
Watching the Avs in the playoffs last year it was really evident how much they missed E.Johnson, will be interesting to see how they do in the playoffs with so many smallish dmen when the intensity level is ratcheted up.

Bringing it back is not setting it back.

I think having that physical edge in the lineup is important, but it can't be the only thing you do if you're that player. I also don't think you need to clog up your 4th line like this.

CC can play, as can Z. Two facepunchers is fine IMO. Besides, lots of other backup options if Avs play a softer team like TB

The Rangers "depth" defenseman plays on their top pair with Fox over 20 mins a game and the hit on Donskoi was CLEAN....it was just a good hard hit. Kadri jumped Lindgren, who is still a kid, so hopefully next time they see the AV's someone on the Rangers beheads Kadri. I only wish it could be me.

Simple truth is every team needs grit, sandpaper and at least one guy who can really drop 'em if it's needed. That part of the game hasn't changed. The major difference these days is that your 'enforcer' needs to be a guy who can do something else first. A modern day Iginla would be a prime example. In the old days you wouldn't want a top line guy missing all the time from fighting. Now it's rare enough that's it not so big an issue if he takes 5. It is a significant element missing from the Avs and something I've been concerned about for a while. Young, small D corps for the most part that can get run easily, with little to no protection. Skilled forwards for the most part as well. Easy to knock a team around if you know there's going to be little coming back in retribution (and I'm not talking about the fighting after good hard hits, that's just idiocy, it needs to be done only if liberties are being taken).

That said I don't think these trades really do the trick.
