Description
Went with protected list very close to crowd-sourced option, assumes no deals are cut for protection purposes.

Is top end of 5th compensation bracket enough to steal Laine from CBJ? Its hard to imagine having to pay him his Qualifying rate at this point. He has the FInn connection to the GM, but my first thought when they acquired him was that it was for this compensation package anyway.

It’s risky for an expansion team to give up their 1st round pick because that could very well be a lottery pick. It’s not worth it IMO.

We fully intend to pay him his QO because all the alternatives are even worse.

Naturally. I'm just saying it kinda sucks to have to cough that up for a guy whose struggling, and just hope he turns it around.

Definitely, but the FA market isn't super inspiring- this is more interesting than just signing Tatar or something like that, and potentially greater rewards. I've also seen suggestions that next year draft is going to be nearly as much of a crap shoot as this year with the reduced amount of scouting time that has been available.

They could get a Laine Level player in 3 year I bet with their Pick and be would be on an ELC and an RFA... So I wouldn't do it.

Revised it; went with the simple Tatar signing, and added Brossoit as well because I also added a trade involving Vanecek

It was damn kind of you to exempt the islanders from the draft but i think the rule is that they must take someone.

You think they value him over Pelech? Or that they will protect 4 defenders, and only Lee, Barzal, Nelson, and Pageau up front?
