Mike Reilly

Created by: gavinray
Team: 2021-22 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: May 1, 2021
Published: May 1, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Reilly - Zub was an insanely good defence pairing before Reilly was traded. We bring them back to be our shut down pairing who plays against the opponent's best lines.

Mete - Brown has been one of the best pairings in the entire league. Brown provides that grit that our D lineup could use.

This gives JBD a chance to play 1D minutes in Belleville and be the go to guy offensively and defensively before playing the NHL.

Brannstrom plays his preferred right hand side and solidifies the top pairing as the go-to offensive line.

He’s played really well in boston. My guess is that someone gives him a head scratchingly high contract. 5x4 or something like that.

I expect at this stage in his career, he'll be willing to sacrifice AAV for term. This is probably going to end up as the best season of his career, and I think he'd be smart to try and find an extension that would keep him in Boston. My guess would be like 2mil over 3-4 years. Maybe a bit more if he hits open market.

That's a steal. Hopefully Dorion is smart enough to make an offer. Reilly - Zub was such an effective pairing for us. Brannstrom at RD where he's comfortable could improve his game.

Ohhhh not a chance. A “puck moving d man,” gets 2 mill if they can make a break out pass. He’s a good player. I don’t think his agent answers the phone if the offer is below 2.75 per. I would expect 3.5x4 minimum.

I wouldn't be opposed to bringing back Reilly. Don't think 3 years makes sense given the timeline for Jake Sanderson. I'd prefer a guy like Jamie Oleksiak though. I think he brings a lot of the things the sens like from Josh Brown, but in a player who can give you more of a 2nd pair usage. I think Josh Brown is competent, but I don't really think he's an everyday top 6 D ideally. Shifting Brown to 7th D, and replacing that 3rd D slot, either with JBD, or a free agent signing makes the Sens a stronger team overall.

I'm a big fan of Brannstrom playing the right side, but I don't think you put him with Chabot, at least not yet. I think the D is stronger overall trying to balance offense and Defense on their D pairs. I think going Chabot-Zub and Oleksiak/Reilly/Other UFA-Brannstrom you're better off, then you still have the option to shake it up if you want 72-26 to ball out offensively or you need Oleksiak-Zub to lock things down.

    Dislike your Seattle move

Zaitsev is only on the books for 3 more years. Id rather just bury him on the 3rd pair as JBD and Zub fully embrace their top4 roles.

His contract isn't going to be an issue based on the ELC years we have.

Its funny how Zub 180'ed Mike's game. Watching Ottawa early in the season before Zub was brought in, I was watching Ottawa games and laughing at how bad Reilly was. I literally called him worse than Jack Johnson after the Canucks played them.

Zub is totally to be credited for this turnaround. he saved Reilly's career.

"According to NaturalStatTrick, his pairing with Josh Brown has been among the league’s best at suppressing opponents’ shot quality, with a 5v5 xGA/60 of just 1.18, which ranks 4th among defense pairings with over 50 minutes of ice time. " -S7S

He won't be burried he'll take ice time away from better players. Zub is a top 4 right now.
