Leafs Playoffs

Description
--> Galchenyuk is a strong depth piece for the Leafs, but having him in the lineup for the playoffs will be a problem. For the past few games, I realized how poor defensively the Galchenyuk - Tavares - Nylander line truly is, and the overall time spent in their own zone is an issue the Leafs need to desperately fix

--> Riley Nash is where an offensive play goes to "die", however, at the same time, nothing occurs when he's on the ice. Specifically, no goals are generated on either team. Nash will be a perfect penalty killer candidate, and someone Keefe could lean on to can shut plays down in the final minutes of a lead. I noticed during the CBJ play-in round, Foligno and Nash were two most used players on the ice whenever the Leafs top 6 were on the ice. There was a reason why the Leafs shot less than 2% in game 5 of the series

--> As much as Brooks has been impressive lately, I am waiting for his play to go back down to earth. At the same time, there may never be "going back down to earth" notion, and what we see is what we get with Brooks. I think Mikheyev and Brooks could be in a rotational role and who ever is needed the most or plays the best will be in the lineup.

While I love the idea of Sandin on the first and am under the impression of trading Rielly next year if he remains this poor and giving Sandin his spot, you don't try that in the playoffs. Maybe they try it in games to come just for fun, but not the playoffs

Brodie exposed how poor defensively Rielly is. We already have two very strong puck moving defensemen in Brodie and Sandin, making Rielly expendable. Next season, I want the Leafs to be committed to stronger defense, and with guys like Oleksiak and Savard available in free agency, we could have:

Sandin - Brodie
Muzzin - Savard
Oleksiak - Bogosian

I would love that. But I doubt they put all that pressure on Sandin. Next year they should absolutely move Rielly for picks to free up capspace, then acquire a guy like Oleksiak. I think Savard will probably want to stay in Tampa

I know the sample size is small, but he looked really good with Brodie in one of the games

Trust me, I am a huge advocate for Sandin. I wanted him to be a leaf all season this year, however he had an injury. Last year I wanted Sandin in the lineup. He is the future of the leafs and their best defensive prospect by a mile. The defense core has been good this year though, and I doubt Keefe makes a change as large as dropping Rielly to the third and Sandin to the first in the playoffs, as much as I want to see Sandin given that chance
