Smith’s no trade clause prevent this from happening.

Smith doesn’t have one but still don’t think this gets done

Come on man, you could look at his contract on this website. He has a modified no trade clause with eight teams he can refuse a trade to. I can pretty much guarantee you Buffalo is on that list and he isn’t taking them off.

It comes off this upcoming offseason when this trade hypothetically happens.

Come on man, you could look at his contract on this website. His M-NTC is not in effect for the last year of the contact

When does the calendar year change from this season to next season? I think it’s in effect until July 1 or something like that, under normal circumstances. However with the changed schedule this season I don’t know when the 2021 season is officially over.

Regardless it’s a bad trade for a buffalo anyway. A late first round pick, A medium high second, and a decent center prospect who isn’t playing very well right now is not nearly enough for Reinhart. Smith is a good player, but I don’t see why they would want to get him because he would never want to re-sign here. Buffalo should be trying to get a long-term contract in place with Reinhart finally, not trading him away for pieces that will be gone in a year or not playing here for several years.

Glass fits the mold that Casey was in - slumped early but now is starting to pan out gradally. Glass could do the same and certainly carries notable value given his draft position. I don't think the Sabres would get much more value for Reinhart than this. At this point its either trade or keep. If you want to keep, that might be different than the management's decision.

Reinhart only gets traded if he refuses to sign a long-term deal. And frankly I think $7 million a year might be enough to get it done. I would think the Sabres would avoid trading him unless Jack Eichel is going, and I just don’t think he is. The Sabres don’t have room for Glass because you wouldn’t waste him on the fourth line Mittelstadt is playing third. Neither of them are really number 2 centers, Cozens can be, and of course Jack is #1 until he’s not here.
