Chinakhov Next Year

Created by: CaseyFlyman
Team: 2021-22 Columbus Blue Jackets
Initial Creation Date: May 2, 2021
Published: May 2, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Jackets signed Chinahkov to his ELC today, which will burn the first year but means he'll likely be in the NHL next season.

Eric Robinson gets selected by Seattle. Merzlikins is the starter going forward, Tarasov the backup, Korpi gets traded before the entry draft for Meier.

Foligno, Laine return. Krejci signed for help at center.

Trade Jenner, Stenlund, and pick for legit top-6 center help in Trocheck.

The team still needs some depth/experience on D and a new coach, in all likelihood.

Do you think a 2nd round pick will be more Important to the Canes than Trocheck? The rest of that trade means nothing in terms of value.

I know this will sound bias as a Toronto fan, and I get Foligno loves Columbus, but does he really go back for his last few years just to stay on a mediocre team that won't be winning anything until after he retires? Toronto is a contender now, and maybe even more so in years to come. Wouldn't Foligno want to win a little more, go back for a year and then retire? Just a genuine question. Atleast if he does go back to CBJ Merzlykins won't be as sad as he is

I don’t think Krejci is gonna leave Boston, but if he does I don’t see CBJ as a destination.
Sharks could say yes, Korpisalo is a good starting goalie, and they get a 1st, but that’ll really hurt there offence.
Carolina says no, Trocheck has been great for Carolina, and Stenlund and Kenner are bottom 6 options, and there a contender, so the 2nd means little
Defence is a bit concerning although

Can't see the Sharks doing that. They haven't given up on him yet.

Meier's performance has been less than stellar of late, and if he doesn't improve, his high qualifying offer is going to make him a headache to deal with. I can see the Sharks flipping him for this kind of package at some point during the offseason.

they aren't bringing in Chinakhov to play 4th line.

This team should tank next year. Shane Wright in CBJ would be awesome.

Chinakhov is going back to the KHL if they shoehorn him into the 4th line

That return is not even close to Trocheck. We'd need at least a 1st then build off that.

I doubted that would be enough return for Trocheck, just a starting point for discussion. I'm not too familiar with where everyone on Carolina is playing in the lineup, or how they've performed this year (just that it's been generally good for everyone). I just saw Aho, Necas, and Stall all signed as potential centers through next season and figured Carolina might be willing to part with a top center for middle-6 depth plus. Columbus has 1sts to move, so if that's the starting point that's also possible.

He's definitely not going to stay on the 4th line, but if Cam, Fligs, and Bjorkstrand are all already there, I could see them starting him on the 4th like they did PLD to get him slowly acclimated to the NHL. There's too much riding on him panning out to anchor him with 4th-liners all year.

Foligno is probably thinking family over personal achievements at this point. He's been very active in the Columbus community and really made it his home, I have no doubts he'll stay there after he retires. As for coming back next year vs. choosing a contender for a year or two...probably 50-50 chance of either. But another factor is how many contenders are going to have cap space to sign him?

Krejci has been one of my favorite players for years, the signing was definitely selfishly motivated! I think he retires in Boston.
