You could have gotten Svechnikov for free he's been put on waivers twice this year.

Oilers aren't trading a 2nd round pick for a career backup goalie.

I think the 3 trades are possible.
EDM needs a goalie, they will have to pay someone for it.
Dillon, most likely I think Seattle picks a defenseman, the question is which one. You can't protect them all without a deal. If there is no deal, someone off the blueline is probably it.

But those signings are way off.
Cole will get way more than that. Supply and demand is gonna be brutal this year on the defense market. You can thank Seattle for that. It's always been bad, but this year is much worse.
As for that OV deal, there is no way. Someone needs to sit down and talk reason. It's either term or value. Almost 11 for 4 years is insane. Not only will you never win another cup at that rate, but you'll also let fear of the player walking ruin you. He's not going to get 11 million on the open market. Sure as hell not for 4 years. 7-8 someone needs to talk him off the ledge. Because if that's the ask, let him walk.

I think Orlov is the better all-round defenseman, so I would protect him over Dillon.

Losing Oshie to Seattle would be great for their cap situation but he is too important for the top six and for the locker room to leave unprotected.

That trade is more about getting Kempnys salary off the books. Johansen and Svechnikov both need fresh starts, so I thought that swap might be a fit.

Well he's been more than a backup this year but that might say more about Samsonov than Vanecek. I've seen him go for a 2nd rounder a few times on here but I don't know...could trade him for a couple of 3rd rounders as well. He's at least 5.5 millions cheaper than Murray.

I agree on Cole, he's been good this year so might be a bit low on him.

Ovi will get paid, no way they let him walk. Leonsis love him and will pay (almost?) whatever he wants. It's up to Ovi to help out the team's cap structure. Sad but true. Hopefully he signs for a million less.

Vanacek has a .908sv on a championship calibre NHL team. That's barely backup material. Your comparison to Murray is awful. Murray has a proven track record and has far more than games player than 33 in his career. A better trade comparable would be Bernier to the Leafs, and even that has some glaring differences. Both were back up goalies on their team at the time, but Bernier was seen as a guy with high end starter potential. Leafs bought based on what he had performed in his little experience, and his potential. Vanacek doesn't have that potential. Toronto gave up a 2nd as the main piece for a guy they saw as a starter long term, there's no way a team gives that up for a guy that has less potential than that. You'd be lucky to get a 3rd for him. More likely to get a 4th-6th round pick and a mediocre prospect in the buyers market that the league is currently in. But a 2nd isn't even in the question

Oilers are pick poor right now and haven't picked in the 2nd for a few years because of the AA deal. I think Vanacek gets offered a 3rd from Edmonton with maybe a prospect to even it out. I really don't see Edmonton going higher than a 3rd at this time.

I didn’t make the Murray-comparison. I just answered another post.

I agree with you. I'm just saying that Oshie might be too rich for the Caps to afford. They gotta sign Ovi, Samsonov. Trading Vrana kinda helped ur cap.

The choice between leaving Dillon/Orlov/Oshie unprotected probably will come down to how much Ovi wants...
