i wouldn't be surprised to see him get some low end votes at some point during his contract with the avs but there's a big difference between norris winners, norris nominations, getting a few norris votes, and never even getting a vote. he just needed to pump the breaks a bit.

His play over the last few seasons says other wise. Statistically he has been on of the leagues top Dmen for a while. Thats what im saying, his impacts are Norris level and this year people are starting to notice it. He wont get Norris votes but hes one of the leagues best Dmen

Both those guys are very good players, but I wouldn’t rate them as top D in the NHL. I’d list them top 30 probably. There are still several D I’d take over them. I get their analytics are great, but Jake Gardiner’s analytics were also great also on Toronto. They don’t always tell the full story. Not saying that Weeger/Toews are like prime Gardiner. Obviously they’re way better, but it’s a stretch to call them two of the best D in the NHL when there are so many good D playing

100% I agree. He will get a few votes, but he’s not a “Norris contender” or a top 10D in the NHL.

I was being tongue and cheek, hes not ever going to win a norris but his play is that of a Norris winning Dman. Same as Girard. They are both 1st pairing Dmen and if they were in a market like Montreal, the Rangers, Boston etc they would be getting way more hype

shots against largely measure a teams performance not an individuals performance. stick toews on ottawa or detroit and he'd plummet, doesn't mean he's any worse a defenseman but he'd be significantly worse in the metrics you're using.

Once again, AVS are stacked. Like dirty dangle said. Throw Toews on a team like DET or OTT and he’d look way less impressive. Even on NYI he was a very good D, but no one pegged him as #1D. I think he’s a very good #2. Once again, that’s not a knock on Toews. Avs have arguably the best D core in the NHL. There’s no need to pump him up better than what he is. Avs paid 2 second round picks for a great #2D. That’s awesome

If Makar/Girard weren’t there as well, and Toews was actually the #1D on his team, his results would look a lot different. you've been calling me a troll ever since i said the avs should re-sign hutchinson last season since gru and frankie are an injury concern. since then the avs have went through miska, dubnyk, jojo and traded a 6th and a 5th and are still no better off.

It was a tongue and cheek comment, and you guys want to dissect it with What IF scenarios of if a player didnt have This or That guy on his team or if He played for another team he probably wouldnt be as good so saying his level this year is of a certain quality cant be true.

You can say that about 90% of the league they wont look as good if you take away all the good players around them or put them on bad teams.

I'm going to say pretty much exactly as @mhockey91 is saying.

Toews is great, but to win a Norris trophy you need to be the best of the league in that year. No one can possibly say Toews is even a top 5 defenseman in the league, he's not top 10 either. Even Girard, as good as he is, is not a Norris calibre defenseman either. Maybe a top 10 defenseman, but not Norris level. Makar is the only Norris calibre defenseman on the Avs.
