If Rangers want to trade up

Created by: NHLfan10506
Team: 2020-21 New Jersey Devils

Description
I doubt the Devils will pick high enough for Beniers to be there. Am guessing he goes top-3 and Devils right now have ~20% chance of top-3 selection. But if NJD traded down, they'd probably only do it for d-man.

(also, these teams normally don't trade with one another)

I don’t know if we’d do that cause there’s a lot of talk around Nils coming over and stepping right into the lineup next year. Plus Berniers it at least another year out (pretty sure he said he was going back to college for another year).

Hard pass. NJ is likely getting a defenceman better than Lundkvist with that pick and a late 1st doesn't push the needle much. Add the 2022 NYR 1st and I'd consider it

Would do this to (2022 first pick instead of Lundkvist). Or even 2021 first pick, 2022 first pick plus lesser defensive prospect (like Jones or Robertson).

Power is great, but Rangers should be more interested in Beniers. And overpay if they need to.

Right now? Yeah, probably, and I hope that would be the case considering he's 3 years older than the current draft class

How does one compare the potential of a 17 year old whos only played juniors/college to a 20 year old with professional experience? I think the majority of scouts/people in the know would have Power, Hughes, and Edvinsson's cielings above Lundkivists.

I don't know what you are expecting from Lundkvist, but is he is likely a middle-pair d-man, who can run PP2. Power is seen as top-pair, possible #1. Clarke and Lambos top pair. Hughes and Edvinsson probably just as much potential as Lundkvist (and I'm not even that high on those two). If Rangers have Fox & Trouba at RHD, with Schneider in pipeline, Nils becomes expendable for top-6 centre.

Yes...probably Clarke and Lambos too. But Rangers would not trade up for d-man. They would trade up for Beniers.

Nils makes Schneider expendable, not the other way around
