Rangers getting Beniers

Created by: AFox23
Team: 2020-21 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: May 3, 2021
Published: May 3, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Getting Beniers onto Rangers would be perfect acquisition for Gorton.

The top five in the 2021 draft will likely be (or should be):

1. Owen Power
2. Matty Beniers
3. Brandt Clarke
4. Kent Johnson
5. William Eklund

Next up would be combination of Lambos, Guenther, Svechkov, Lysell and probably one other unexpected player (like Poltapov or Lucius). I do not think Raty, Edvinsson, Hughes or either of the goalies go in top-10. Maybe Sillinger or Chayka. And I believe Power is likely to stay at #1.

The Rangers would have to move up to #2, #3 or #4 to get Beniers. Price will be high, but worth it.

Below are the five teams most likely to pick in top-5. And I listed five different trade ideas that the Rangers could potentially offer.

Hughes is 100% going top 5. Edvinsson is going top 10. Raty is not going top 10

Rangers should just stay where they are at and get Raty. He's a high risk high reward prospect

Luke Hughes is not as good of a skater as his brothers (who I don't think are that good anyway) and he is hurt. He could go 6-10 but I doubt he will be worth it. And Edvinsson will fall to 16-20 range, maybe further. No offense. Ceiling is Noah Hanifin.

Why do you keep insisting that the Rangers are going to make the playoffs? Boston only needs to get one point out of their last 6 games to eliminate the Blue Shirts.

No thanks on Raty. We have surplus of defense we can deal. Might as well go up and get a rock solid top-6 centre.

isn’t 18-20 a playoff team lol? rangers aren’t making the playoffs. and hughes is probably going top 5, definitely top 7, and edvinsson is very unlikely to fall out of the top 10 as well. guenther is also gonna be top 5, probably top 3. if the rangers get beniers it will only be because they won the lottery, moved up to 5oa, and then traded up to 2oa because beniers is going top 2. and seeing how i don’t even remember the last time a top 2 pick was knowingly traded (2001?) i doubt that happens. not to mention that if they DO win the lottery, with the lowest odds, for the 3rd year in a row, it’s definitely rigged lol

I like mctavish, but I don’t think he’s better than mb/we/dg/kj, and op/lh/bc are rounding out the top 7 for me 100%, so he’d be fighting with lambos/edvinsson/lysell/lucius/sillinger to be top of the next group

Me personally I’d have them ranked like this:
1) Owen Power
2) Matt Beniers (1 and 2 can be switched based on team needs)
3) Brandt Clarke
4) Dylan Guenther
5) Luke Hughes
6) Kent Johnson (5 and 6 can be switched)
7) William Eklund
8) Simon Edvinsson (7 and 8 can be switched)
9) Mason McTavish
10) Fabian Lysell (9 and 10 can be switched)
11) Jesper Wallstedt

I was using the draft position that cap friendly current has listed. Rangers need a miracle to get into playoffs. And will likely pick in mid-teens, but wanted to err on higher side because people have a tendency to flip out on these things.

Yes, Cap Friendly has them currently at #20. It will be mid-teens.

That sounds like the consensus list, but I do not think Hughes, Edvinsson go that high. Hughes doesn't skate like his brothers (also hurt) and Edvinsson provides no offensive output (his ceiling is Noah Hanifin). Agree with your top-3. Think Guenther, Johnson, Eklund are 4-6 (in any order). Then there are a dozen or so guys who could go 7-15 (Hughes, Edvinsson, Lambos, Svechkov, Lysell, Poltapov, Lucius, Ceulemans, Sillinger, Chayka, etc)

I kinda hope the Sens can get one of those top 7 guys on the list. Preferably one of Beniers, Guenther , Johnson, Clarke, Eklund.

No way those teams trade away a top 4 pick, when they have to side to about 18 to get a first rounder. Rangers would have to trade two top prospects and their pick for at least.

We'll know soon enough. Boston gets a point tonight against New Jersey and Rangers' latest possible spot would be #16, with #15 and #16 most likely unless Dallas catches fire.

Particularly when that top-4 pick is owned by a team that badly needs centers and so will not cooperate with the idea of a soon-to-be-once-again divisional rival plucking one of the best (if not THE best) centers in the draft.

I pretty much agree with this list. I personally think that Guenther will go 3rd because GMs hate drafting D high (only 1 draft in the last decade had more than 2 D go in the top 7, this is also why I think edvinsson/lambos might slip out of the top 7 when some view both of them as top 3 talents) and Guenther has so much appeal as a right shot that can score and isn’t a liability defensively. I’ve also heard a lot of hype around Lucius so I feel like he may sneak into the top 10 and be the 5th or 6th forward off the board. Good list tho, I’ll probably change my mind 7 or 8 more times by draft day haha

Sabres fan here.
I would take that deal even if the pick was first OA.
Jones gives the Sabres depth at LHD
Georgiev gives the Sabres an alternative to Ullmark
2021 pick would be about the 15th OA, 2022 who knows.
The 2021 pick may take a few years to make it to the nhl, Jones and Georgiev help right now.
