Making a case for exposed players Seattle Expansion

Created by: nalzugaray12

Initial Creation Date: May 3, 2021

Description
With Seattle Expansion Draft getting closer and closer, there's still no real guaranteed pick from the Boston Bruins. It's hard to say who will get protected, who will get exposed. However, we have a pretty good idea on some of the players who will get exposed. I'm going to list the players, in order, of who Seattle may be favoriting (by position).

BOSTON PROTECTS
FWD: David Pastrnak
FWD: Brad Marchand
FWD: Patrice Bergeron
FWD: Charlie Coyle
FWD: Craig Smith
FWD: Jake Debrusk
FWD: Between Ritchie and Frederic
D: Charlie McAvoy
D: Brandon Carlo
D: Matt Grzelcyk

G: Dan Vladar

Seattle Priority Forwards Available
1) Nick Ritchie
- Entering the prime of his career, Ritchie is a power forward with great size and has some decent skill. If made available, Nick Ritchie is #1 forward who'd be a target for Seattle. Can be a low end 2nd liner- 3rd liner and may elevate his game further in Seattle.

2) Trent Frederic
- Two years younger than Ritchie, Frederic has fan favorite potential for Seattle and can grow into an impact 4th liner or even third liner. One can argue he'd be priority forward #1 for Seattle.

3) Sean Kuraly
- This may confuse some Bruins fans, but Sean Kuraly had been a pretty good 4th liner for Boston for the past few seasons. Wouldn't (but would) surprise me if Seattle takes a shot at Kuraly to elevate his game further, and becomes a solid bottom 6 piece for them. Unlikely, but it's really not impossible. He is a UFA which may be unattractive, but it's unlikely he gets a multi-year offer from Boston. Seattle has ability to extend him for 2-3 years.

4) Zach Senyshyn
- Unlikely, but 24 years old and is producing fairly well in AHL. Seattle may take a gamble...probably not.

5) Ondrej Kase
- One could argue he should be higher than Senyshyn, but the injury prone winger may just be one more bad hit from retiring. Has the talent to be a 3rd/2nd line winger, ability to stay healthy may prevent him from getting drafted.

Seattle Priority Defensemen Available
1) *Jeremy Lauzon*
- The "*" means he's my favorite to get picked from Seattle. 24 year old defensive minded dman, with room to improve. If you ask me, there will be a decent amount of puck-moving dmen available from other teams. A young, defensive minded Lauzon might not be easy to pass on.

2) Jakub Zboril
- Another guy who could very well be taken by Seattle. He's more of a puck-moving option but it's no guarantee he'd be a regular for Seattle's defense. He is still improving and Seattle may very well see second pairing potential in Zboril. Depends who you ask.

3) Connor Clifton
- I think a lot of people sleep on the potential of him getting drafted. He's right handed, can skate, has puck moving ability, and is physical. The problem? He makes mistakes more often than expected. What you see in Clifton may just be what you're getting, it's uncertain if he can improve his game further. I personally think he'll be a fine third pairing dman one day, his style of play is attractive.

4) Mike Reilly
- It is extremely possible Seattle takes a gamble on the UFA, Mike Reilly is a legitimate second pairing, puck moving dman. Only 27 years old. Seattle has the ability to give him a tad bit more money and term, they likely don't draft him and take a shot on him on July 1st.

OTHERS
1) Tuukka Rask- For obvious reasons, I don't see why Tuukka would go to Seattle as a UFA. I don't see it
2) David Krejci- same reason as Tuukka, I don't see it
3) Taylor Hall- I think he re-signs in Boston for 2-3 years.

Skill wise- Absolutely. Health is a huge concern, as I mentioned. One hit to the head earlier this season has sat him out the whole year. What happens if he gets hit again? That's my point. Kuraly has been fantastic on PK his whole tenure in Boston, and *can* provide energy for 4th line. Not the greatest year by any means, but Seattle may choose skill forward elsewhere and choose the energy player from Boston

In your opinion...

He explained why he believes Kase is lower, and his description was spot on...

If you disagree thats fine, but make sure you explain that lmao

Don't know if you did it on purpose or not, but you only protected 6 forwards. There's still room for one.

I do believe BOS ends up protecting Ritchie.

As for Seattle's pick, I'd wager it's a clash between Lauzon or Frederic - depending on how they get their other centers or D-men sorted better.

You can protect 1 more FW.

Kuraly is of no interest via the expansion draft. No point in taking UFAs. Run a huge risk of ending up with nobody. They’d be doing a Boston a huge favor. They might try to sign him as a FA but no chance he’s selected in the expansion draft unless Boston pays them to.

It’s Ritchie/Frederic or Lauzon unless a trade is made. Most likely the FW as their are a ton of D available and not much up front.

Personally I would not be surprised if Debrusk ends up there via a trade that gets them to take Moore and sends a D man back to Boston.

Thank you. Not protecting Jake Debrusk would be terrible asset management. Not having the greatest year at all, but 27 goals two seasons ago, 20+ pace last season. It it a down year, or is this the real Jake Debrusk? I'm taking my chances on protecting him to find out next season...Jake Debrusk has more "boom" potential in his game than Ritchie anyways

Bos has no defensemen Seattle wants. Seattle will have plenty of much better defensemen available to them. They don't need to get a 7th DMan from Bos.

Ritchie, maybe. That really depends on the contract. If he wants some absurd amount Seattle won't be taking him.
The 2nd is Frederic. only because they hope he can develop into something more. Personally that's who I think they take.

7 forwards get protected not 6. My 7th pick would be Freddy. Otherwise very good job.

A grade for that. Only reason it’s not an A+ is I don’t think Kuraly is an option due to his pending UFA status. If they want him, just offer an extra 200K, take him and take Lauzon.

I agree- It's between Lauzon and whoever is left for that forward. Lauzon has to be the guy in my opinion

For John Moore- I think you can just buy him out. The cap penalty isn't that bad if they choose to go that route. Don't think anyone wants John Moore

I agree that Kuraly is unlikely to be taken. I have him #3 because he will be an attractive 4th line UFA when he hits the open market on July 1st, Seattle may take him to get first dibs on negotiations. It is unlikely though, I understand. It's the same situation is Mike Reilly, they may want first dibs on negotiations for the attractive UFA dman

Moore is injured. Cant buyout injured players. Will not be healthy at the buyout window.

I think the Bruins may leave Coyle available. That contract could be scary. That being said, if he turns into Playoff Coyle he will be protected.

RItchie is the guy IMO. He's been on the 4th line since Hall's arrival and the only reason he is still in the lineup is because A) he's a big body B) Debrusk has been worse.

There is a sneaky chance that Kuhlman gets taken. He has shown some real flashes. Maybe they trade him to get them to take Zboril over Lauzon.

They do not need to protect UFA's. Reilly is not available as he is a UFA. I am guessing he resigns here after draft.

Along with Hall, Krejci and maybe Rask - although that will be at a very team friendly deal. It's the same reason Ovi hasn't resigned in Washington. I am sure they have a verbal agreement in place.

I doubt it. Their are a ton of quality D men available. They will probably be trading away d men picked to acquire forwards. The last mock I saw had them taking Frederic from Boston and they picked 11 d men better than Lauzon or Clifton.

Bruins will protect Frederic, or they would have traded him. IMO.

It's Kase, Lauzon, Ritchie in that order.

Lauzon is better than you are giving him credit for. He's better than a good number of the Mock draft D.

I guess we will see.

EW. You never know though. It's a 10 team NTL & then shrinks. Much rather be on the next Vegas than say playing in Arizona or Ottawa.

Would not be surprised if they protected Frederic over Ritchie especially with Ritchie fading in the second half. Can’t imagine Kase is of much interest.

That mock had Vince Dunn being selected and not being one of their top 6. Lauzon is solid but they have so many better options on D while FW is slim picking.

Lauzon will be the best player available from Boston but it’s not the best option for Seattle all things considered.

Exactly! You don't really want Seattle taking a guy like Lauzon or Freddy who have serious potential. Debrusk has, per Cassidy "played with every center on this team" and "it's up to him now", so I am starting to feel like this a Bjork situation where you have a guy with serious potential, but won't fit cause a lack of effort. I mean c'mon you see Smith every game, the man is an absolute animal lately constantly going for the puck. Losing Debrusk is the least of our worries at this point and if you could package him with Moore and get 6 mill in cap space its totally worth it.
