UFA 2021

Created by: Old_Dogs_Rookie
Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: May 3, 2021
Published: May 3, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Enough cap space for Klefbom to come off IR if possible or add at the deadline if needed.

Hamilton will bring more than this on a normal year but flat cap and a strong potential for the team contending for a few years could swing this to Edmonton's favour.

Good chance Hyman re signs in Toronto but paying over 5 could price him out of TO and not taking any decline on winning potential.

2.5 may not get Ritchie as there really is no reason for Calgary not to try to re sign him, potential of winning sooner could draw him out.

Will be hard for Tampa to re sign Coleman to this for cap reasons but there will be other suitors.

Not sure the Getzlaf signing even makes sense but what a third line this could be.

Could end up being an overpay for Driedger as the sample size is small but someone probably steps up and pays this, other than trading for someone more established with term I'm not sure who else makes sense here and an upgrade on the tandem is needed to contend.

Could save some money resign larsson instead of Hamilton. For Hamilton to sign that deal I’m betting a few promises will need to be made like top pp time which completely limits Bouchards biggest strength. Also would have to hand out no trade clause which would be nice to avoid and likely could avoid with larsson. I’m really high on resigning him.
Hyman I love the signing excellent choice.
Getzlaf is a very interesting option very very open to that idea but want to see Mcloed down the stretch before commenting on if it’s a good idea or not might not be needed however love the idea of flexibility it provides the entire roster can move up to second line allowing Leon and mcdavid shifts together. Overall I really like this just not into the Hamilton idea

I do agree and would like to see Bouchard get more PP time as well, I think this gives you the flexibility to truly have two PP units though and with that strength even run two d on your first or second units to split up your forwards evenly, especially if Klefbom can be healthy as it gives you two strong RHD and two strong LHD on the PP possibilities. I like McLeod as a 3C as well but Getzlaf would give you that maturity and experience as well as size and grit, both could possibly move up and down the lineup with injury too.

For the pp it’s tough with Edmonton they have such an unreal 5 man unit it’s unfortunate really for guys like yam or jp when the first unit just stays out there for the full pp they are lucky to get time so part of me wants to split it up and roll two actual units however loading up is just so darn fun to watch and can’t argue with results so at the end of the day my vote is just have a 5 man unit let mcdavid and Leon get their time in together there because 5-5 mostly be split up. Threw the tail end of season I’d like to see bouch given a shot on pp while the unit is use to a right hand shot back there.

Yes its hard to split up a unit that is that deadly no doubt, my only issue is that once in awhile they do get caught at the tail end of a PP and give up a break or an odd man rush with a tired unit out and then seem to se momentum shift after a good cycle if they don't score, would be nice especially in the final push and the playoffs to have a second unit that can cycle and do a bit of damage too.

Getzlaf is done. How could you possibly think giving him a 2 year, $8M deal at 36 is a good idea?

My plan would be to sign Larsson for 2-3 more years this summer and then pursue Parayko next summer. If Colton signs, Larsson can be traded for a forward or for futures.

Ya I like that you’d have larsson as insurance in case Colton doesn’t hit the open market and can take a swing on him if miss out have insurance good plan I like it
