Sabres don't need the cap space so that trade is a no from Buffalo.
I don't see Seattle doing Canucks a favor and taking Holtby.

That makes sense for Okposo, I was just looking for dead contracts.

As for Seattle, I honestly don't know what else there'd be to pick from. With Schmidt and Miller gone (in my scenario) Gadjovich and Juolevi get protected so Holtby is the only real player.

The Sabres have no need to use a 1st to dump Okposo

Flipping a guy you paid a 3rd round pick for and getting a 1st after a down season? Not likely.

    Whoa the LA 2022 1st

    😳

Dunno if I agree with the note implying LA are on the way up there especially not so soon and I think only the 3 best teams should trade their '22 1st for him

But he was only traded for a 3rd because Vegas was getting Pietrangelo and they needed to dump someone. Schmidt has been the Canucks top D this year (at both ends). He's locked in on a decent contract and could definitely go for a 1st to the right team.

Don't agree. I could see him getting a Martinez-like return (two 2nds). Martinez is a similarly skilled defenseman with a more team-friendly cap hit and same term remaining at the time of the trade. Martinez also had the clutch and two-time Cup winner intangibles going for him. I can't see Schmidt getting a larger return than that, especially after a down season. Being the "top D" on the worst team in the weakest division in the league this season isn't really saying much.

It all depends on who the team acquiring him is. Two seconds from a team like LA (#41 - LA pick and #48 - STL pick) could be worth far more than a first from a team like Carolina (#32), especially in this upcoming draft.

Wow! You’re not getting a 1st for Schmidt let alone the kings 1st
