Initial Creation Date: May 4, 2021

Description
This team is bad and not getting better. Something has to happen. Gaudreau, Monahan and Lindholm are basically in or past their prime - just let them go and build new before you sign long and bad contract you'll have to wait out.

So you didn't, in fact, read my comment

Oh, I read it. I also strongly disagreed with it. Not the context, because your correct about name recognition. What I said, more or less, is your wrong that GM's are dumb and stupid to the point they'll willingly make a trade where they clearly get shafted.

What you call "A GM being dumb", isn't them being dumb or stupid, it's desperation. Rutherford's Zucker and Kapanen trades are prime examples of that. Poile overpayed for Kunin and made other moves that have either not panned out or are too early to judge. Benning actually made smart trades that massively improved his roster but then let them all walk, and the only thing the Canucks have left to show for his efforts is a lottery pick in this years draft.

And for the record, Eriksson-Ek's value didn't just skyrocket for me. I wouldn't have traded him 1v1 for Monahan this year, last year, or the year before. I knew what we had in him.

That doesn't change the fact Monahan's value is dropping like a rock and that Calgory won't get anything close to what fans think they can get for him. Or what my fellow Wild fan, who is a known idiot among our fanbase here, is trying to say. Albeit wrongly and not very well.

What he's referring to, is multiple articles and podcasts that have been put out by our Athletic beat-writer Michael Russo. Specifically in regards to the known fact that Sean Monahan was offered to the Wild in a straight up one for one exchange for Matt Dumba last off-season. Guerin said no, and Russo went on to say that he didn't seem interested in making a deal for Monahan.

What my fellow Wild fan doesn’t seem to comprehend is that doesn't mean a trade couldn't happen, just not with the assets involved or that it couldn't be revisited later.

I said before I wouldn't make this trade, as it is. I then offered an alternative trade proposal which would have made sense for a team heading for a rebuild by your own scenario. You chose to ignore it, and claimed I hadn't read what you posted instead. 🤷‍♂️

I won't bother looking back but you seem reasonable and I might've missed it. Yes, I could read between the lines about a previous Monahan trade proposal, but yeah, it's pretty weird to go off on me for not knowing every trade suggested to ones favorite team.

But then you get my point - I don't even think Monahan was worth more than JEE, but we can probably agree that it was the league-wide perception a year or two back.

I think the real reason most GM's don't trade big name players are ownership and money-related, along with being scared of looking really dumb - for sure a possibility when trading big names. And I still agree with your assessment. Rutherford could've traded for any player not carrying Kapanen's name. Plenty of GM's wouldn't pay for Hall what they paid for other players at the deadline because they bought into narrative. Dougie Hamilton is an absolute star in the league but has been traded multiple times cause of the narrative surrounding him. What is Benning signing Myers or Eriksson then? Desperation comes from making poorly thought out decisions and dealing with the consequences of those. Desperation trades that are out of a GM's hand exist - Laine for PLD for example, but when it's Zibanejad+ for Brassard?
