Monahan has 7 seasons of 20+ goals and 3 of those were 30+ goals. I'll take that along with a lower cap hit over Kuznetsov and his terrible defensive play, faceoff ability and lazy stick infractions.

Monahan has MUCH worse defensive impacts than Kuz, actually. As for goals, who cares, we are loaded with goal scorers. We need playmakers. Caps lose that trade, easy.

Outside of Ovechkin and Oshie (who may go to Seattle) who are all of these "goal scorers" they are so "loaded" with? A few guys who can chip in 20 goals a year are not "goal scorers"

uummm yes they are lol 20+ goal scorers are great to have. But anyways, Mantha and Sprong can get you 30 as well.

Mantha has never scored 30 goals and hasn't hit 20 in 4 years and Sprong has 31 goals his entire career. Ovechkin and Oshie are the only 30 goal scorers the Caps have had since Alexander Semin 11 years ago and even Oshie has only hit 30 once.

Still lots of 20+ goal scorers. Also have McMichael coming. No need for goal scorers, need playmakers.

Playmaking centers who play responsible defense that can win face-offs while not taking lazy penalties and not be a turnover machine are assetts. Kuznetsov is none of those.

Kuz improved his defensive play considerably. He's actually positive in xGA. Faceoffs are overrated. I have no problem moving Kuz but not for Monahan who's worse in everything except goal scoring.

His xGA would be higher if he was good at faceoffs wouldn't it? That would lead to more offensive possessions. Kuznetsov has not had more takeaways than giveaways in 5 years while Monahan is +79 TKA/GVA in his career, Kuz is -69.
