    Additional Details:
If the Leafs want, this can be a 3-way, double retention deal with a team with a lot of cap space. The $1.25M would probably cost a 4th for the whole season

    I'd be patient.

    Sign Phil Danault in FA
    Re-sign Patty
Hopefully luck into Beniers in the draft (if he's gone, Eklund will suffice)
We'll be set to be a playoff team in a couple years.

You can't be serious? Noway that gets you Zach Werenski at $2,500,000. Werenski probably cost anywhere for $9,000,000 to $9,500,000 per season long term. I doubt Toronto can afford him and i seriously doubt he signs there growing up a diehard Red Wings fan and hating the Leafs.

Leafs aren't trading 3 cost efficient Dmen plus futures for Werenski who can be a UFA in two years.
Hard to believe all these players from a middling to bad CBJ team are worth so much.

Even if u tear down Jones and Werenski shouldn't be traded...this is if you want to just tank for one of the top 2/3 of the 2022 draft. Shane Wright a colombus blue jacket seems right

Hard pass from the Leafs unless you can include prime Darcy Tucker and Bob Cole to call our games again.

What awaits the team as it stands though?

Most of the core players are UFAs

Not a great situation to re sign there

At least this gets something for them

Tough to screw up 7 first round picks

Building a team that will actually get somewhere does not involve just maximizing the number of high draft picks. Those players need to be put into a situation where they're able to succeed. If you sell off every single core veteran, you will not be able to give them that environment, and instead condemn yourself to years of Buffalo-like irrelevancy.

I think the Oilers would do that... slight upgrade on the goaltending front and then a couple picks for a bunch of salary dump to allow them to fill out roster to contend.

Middling players meaning 2 top pair defenseman, a starting goalie and a top goal scorer. The stenlund deal is kinda weird but nobody thought we could get 2 firsts for savard and foligno but here we are.
On the werenski trade why would we trade a top pair guy for 3 guys who may be 2nd pair guys at their peak.
Dermott has not lived up to the hype he had 2 years ago and Timothy has looked better of recent but I don’t see the high upside. I know holl has great defensive metrics this year but id like to see them repeated next year to solidify him as a top 4 rhd

We’d want a lot more to take on Neal, Turris and koskonen than just a third. Elvis has been a bright spot on a horrible season no way we trade him for no real top 6 forward support.

Leafs won't be trading 3 of top 7 NHL Dman whose collective salary is about 4.25m next season for one Werenski. Beside where does Werenski fit into the Leafs lineup? Reilly, Muzzin, Sandin seem to lock at LHD

Leafs are trading 3 Dmen for and more for one Werenski. I agree with you, Detroit is one team that has the cap to sign Werenski....though I would wait till he is a UFA. Why waste any future on him
Gee, no way is worth over 9m per season, which would make his the fourth highest paid Dman this year. IMO year after year, so many folks have fallen in love with Columbus Dmen and goalies for no apparent reason.
