Remember 2015 when he put the team on his back, broke his wrist and was never the same again? Rough. I keep waiting for him to "come good" but the longer it goes on the more it sets in its probably not gonna happen.
I also get the eerie feeling we're gonna lose Palat and Killorn and ride out the Johnson contract unsure

Something interesting Johnson has said in the past year or so is that when he entered the league not everyone could skate like they do now. While Johnson certainly isn't considered a bad skater now, his advantage over lesser skaters certainly has diminished. I think his wrist injury has been somewhat of a factor, but not as much as some make it out to be.

I don't get that feeling on Johnson. Worst case scenario I think we retain $2m and have to get cheap at all of the open spots. I'm personally open to trading 1 or 2 young players to Seattle if it meant full cap relief, but I know some fans on here have attachment to those players. He still commands >50% corsi and xG percentages when on the ice, so he's certainly not bad.

It's just hilarious that just because it's the playoffs they can be $10 million over the cap

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

I agree with everything you're saying. We won't know until we know. But I just have this unease about it.

In my opinion we should use Kucherov to get rid of Johnson and restock our prospect/draft picks cupboard. As even though he is one of the best players in the league we've shown we can score without him this year, and it would get us out of a huge cap hole for years. Sadly I don't see JBB ever doing this and even if he was willing to Kucherov now has a NMC.

Here is an example

Also, we should definitely play 12-6

I don't know about that. Kucherov and Point together make us a championship contender. Sure without him we can make the playoffs, but we are no longer a deep run team.

If Point and Kucherov can rekindle their magic from last year, I think that group of 7 would hardly ever give up more than 2 goals a game if they play a committed defensive game. They've slowly been cutting down on the breakaways and shots against, so I'd try it. Probably 12/6 to start to make sure Kuch can play a full game.

Maybe you're right, but if we can get a top 5 pick like in the link I included plus maybe ABB can become a legit top6er as he's shown plenty of potential? I'd certainly consider it. What if we don't win a cup this year or next? There's a good chance in 5 years we'll just be a fringe playoff team because our prospect pool is basically non-existent plus we're looking at losing at least next year's 1st and/or Foote just to get rid of Johnson

BB is not a sure thing, and if this weekend was any indication in Syracuse then Alex Green may end up beating Foote to a roster spot next year.

I think a downturn is inevitable after this year. Kucherov and Point though still give us a the best chance of competing and making a playoff run for the cup. As long as we have the core pieces in place, our prospect pool is sufficient enough as is to compete, but we'll need to start saving our 1-3 round picks eventually. I'll post an updated prospect pool assessment once Syracuse's season ends, but I think we have at least 3 NHL ready forwards and 1 defenseman who could fill in and keep us competitive starting next year.
