Filling the holes

Team: 2021-22 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: May 4, 2021
Published: May 4, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Biggest needs:

Veteran Forward:
- I like the idea of Komarov, we have made trades with isles before and can def see us going back to them. Also it is only one year so if it doesn't work out, he's gone after a year.

Top 4 defender:
- Hampus Lindholm would be most ideal in my opinion. I know he is going to cost a lot to get, but he can fix so many problems this team has. Seen the idea of Dumba but he's a righty and I don't think Right side is our biggest issue (wouldn't mind if we got him, just don't think he should be the first option considering what we have and what we need). With Severson, Subban and Dumba, one has to play 3rd pair and thats not ideal, I think top 4 left side should be more of a focus. Anaheim has guys under contract like Fowler and Shattenkirk, and young guys like Drysdale, Fleury, and Larsson and this could open up lots of playing time and with guys like Manson and Lindholm expiring, moving them is smart considering where they are. Devils are obviously young too, but I think we can compete sooner than Anaheim and this gives them young assets to work with to keep building. <Sorry for a lot of words :) >

Bottom pair defender:
- Lots can be had in free agency, but I choose Ian Cole because I know he is very responsible defensively

Backup Goalie:
- Love what I have seen from Driedger this season in Florida, could form a solid tandem with Blackwood

Still lots of money to resign our players

Protection list: (7,3,1)
F: Nico, Bratt, Zacha, Wood, Kuokkanen, Sharangovich, McLeod
D: Lindholm, Severson, Subban
G: Blackwood

*Lindholm and Komarov trade done before expansion draft*

High cost? Am missing something with 22 yr old Boqvist? Hasn’t produced at the NHL level at all.

He has potential. He hasn't been given a big opportunity on the Devils. He's been good after the TDL when given 3rd line minutes

I heard Komarov is going to the KHL after this year
I think we need RHD more than LHD. If we get Luke Hughes this offseason, we'll have Smith, Hughes, Bahl, Mukamudullin all on the left side. On our right side, we'll only have Severson and Walsh. But I do like the Lindholm trade.
I think Driegder wants more money and term, which the Devils shouldn't give him. I rather go after a veteran backup like Bernier

Komarov seems like a kind of random selection for a veteran.
I would rather just re-sign Zajac.
Or sign Brandon Saad. Or Ian Cole. or Hjalmarsson. Or Martinez.

Love the Lindholm trade.
Ducks would have to think pretty highly of Boqvist though.
