Bust out the AHL rules and send him there on an emergency loan!

For that salary Danault will stay in MTL!

IMO you'll have to offer 6m+ to get him out of Montreal (or being a contender team)

Okay but why would Seattle pick Ritchie and trade him the second after? Instead, just send the picks to Boston. You're okay with Giordano leaving?

Seattle should take Kylington over Giordano 100%

You build for the future, not the past.

Seattle gets to stock up on picks and Calgary gets a guy after expansion that they would have to protect if they made the deal with the Bruins pre expansion. I would prefer to see Giordano go, it opens up the cap, changes the leadership group drastically and gives Hanifin and Valimaki the top four minutes.

I don't think Kylington builds to the future, Kylington in my mind slots in as a career 7th D man or AHL'er. Giordano is one year to reach that cap floor and create a bit of a culture there and he's a UFA, I see what you mean and don't necessarily disagree, just defending my pick.

If the Flames were to go to 6 for Danault I would rather they go to 7 for Nugent Hopkins. I'd want to see them spend on Danault if Backlund were to leave but with Lucic waiving I would hate to see more than 5.5 for Danault

I protect Phillips over Backlund. 3rd line center are easier to find and Phillips will be selected if not protected IMO.

And I would argue it is too soon (23 y.o., less than 100 games) to say that Kylington wont reach his top 4 potential.

And "reaching the floor" argument doesn't mean anything if you dont offer a pick for Giordano. Seattle will have plenty of UFAs to spend money on or teams willing to pay for a capdump.

    Good talk wink

Elite defensive centers are not easy to find, he's been way better than Monahan this year so let's call him a 2C and he's made every winger he plays with better. Undersized scoring wingers are easy to find in the AHL, look at the points leaders from last season in the AHL, all the ones that were under 5'10" are no where to be found this season.

I agree with you that he's not worth more than 5m5. This is something habs will likely offer IMO. So I don't see him leaving MTL except for a contender or a team that will overpay him.

And fair enough, if that's the pick then it is what it is, it would be unfortunate to not open up a bit of cap space but there is no need to protect or dwell over Kylington.

    Have a good one!

No way Buffalo makes that deal. Olofsson is just as productive as Monahan at half the cost. And you want Sabres to add Thompson and second rounder too? 25 year old AHLer Philp has no NHL trade value.

Fair enough, are the Habs in a good spot to offer 5.5? If that's a number he settles on what do you think the term is? I may be wrong but are there some pretty good options in the pipeline for Montreal?

Yeah, but Monahan is not a good exemple, Backlund still is a 3rd line center. They can even go after Danault for the job. Ruzicka can center the 4th and maybe Ryan the 3rd. Or go after Nick Paul or Colin White if Ottawa are interested in Monahan.

Assuming Tatar won't be back habs can sign Danault to a very good contract. We have Evans/Poehling that could take the spot but Danault's strenght is to play against top lines, and we don't have any prospect ready for that yet.

Edit : I think Poehling might be more suit to take Tatar's spot than shutdown C spot.

Very interesting. Seattle will be on the hunt for young centers for sure since it will be their most shallow position (like most of the teams) . I don't know Philips enough though.

Agreed, I still don't think that you keep Phillips over Backlund though, 2019-20 hius shooting percentage was completely unsustainable and then this season he had 13 of his 21 points in a seven game stretch with Connor Zary, who fills that big body roll on that line and opens up Phillips. If you were to bring him to the NHL next season it would have to be with Backlund I think, he's the only center who plays well enough in his own zone to cover up the biggest hole in Phillips game.

I understand your take, and Backlund is a good middle 6 player. But we know his ceillings, what if Phillips becomes the next Jonathan Audy-Marchessault? Calgary window is closing, even if they signed Markstrom long term, the core need to be shaken a it. Giordano's best years are behind him and I think moving Backlund could also be good for the team moving forward. With Ruzicka, Pospisil, Phillips, Philp, Emilio-Pettersen, Gawdin and Zary, there will be a lot of bottom 6 role guys fighting for a spot. Sure Backs is ahead of them but if they decide to pull the trigger on Monahan and/or Gaudreau (I wish they keep Gaudreau).

Philp and Thompson probably have the same value, paying Thompson 1.4 for the next two seasons is like getting Bennett back. Olofsson plays RW not C, a Boston 2nd rounder in a draft that no one knows much after the first round is not a steep price to pay, essentially a 3rd round lottery ticket. Maybe change the prospect but my god, Calgary isn't adding as much as you're making it seem. You really came out of the gates hot just to sound goofy.
