Highly doubt Danault signs for that little. Also don't think Lehkonen can sign for that caphit as his RFA qualifying offer wld need to be in excess of 2.4m

1.87mm is 85% of his current years salary of $2.2mm. That’s the threshold for team elected arbitration. Lehkonen wouldn’t have much of a case given his stats and ice time.

Contracts of $30mm + given out by GMs not named Marc Bergevin to forwards post Covid across the entire NHL? Zero.
Hard to make the case that $25mm for Danault is “that little” right now.

But this is for season 2022-2023, so in theory you are saying that Lehkonen will accept a qualifying offer of 1 year for 2021-2022. Thus he will need to be making 100% of 2.4mil from 2022 onwards

Idk why you're getting so defensive -___-

And ok fine that's great and all but a very misleading comment if you look at last years UFA class at center. Who was available at Danault's caliber? Michael Granlund, Andreas Athanasiou, Joe Thornton? That's it. Not a great comparable if you ask me...

Granlund only being able to get 1x$3.75mm I’d agree is further evidence to the same point.

It doesn’t have to be at center though to make the point for forwards overall, it was a UFA world where the max contract offered to Tyler Toffoli was Bergevin and his $17mm. The fact that he’s #2-3 in the entire NHL in goal scoring definitely helps Bergevin’s negotiating hand.

He could sign a 2 yr deal taking him to UFA and then he’d have more negotiating leverage after that. Signing for less than your qualifying offer is not an impossibility in this environment either (given his stats this year). Depends on how much cash will be available across the league for his type of player and what the appropriate cap hits project to be.

To my point exactly, Granlund has been pretty bad in NSH why would they want to sign him any longer than 1year at a time. I was actually surprised he got 3.75 to be perfectly honest.

But yes I do agree that Toffoli has definitely set the market here in montreal a little bit differently for sure. However if Pietrangelo got 8.8mil from a new team, it probably is not that far-fetched to think that if MTL doesn't offer Danault atleast 4.5-5.5 per year, then another team surely will.

Yes that's what I'm trying to make sense of. If he does that, Lehkonen won't be up for a contract in this 2022 season that you're highlighting with this post

The 2 year deal could be signed this year theoretically, so he’d be one year into it at this point.
