Hard no from the Habs. Weber has more points than Duchene and costs less. Add in Byron for Granlund and retain some salary on Duchene and maybe, just maybe they talk.

Note that their terms are almost similar and Weber's 6 years older. NSH is taking a huge risk in taking Weber's full contract. Also "costs less" is a pretty marginal thing to say considering that difference is a whopping $150K.

In theory to stabilize some of the term and money, I suppose NSH and MTL could add Benning and Byron respectively to the exchange. Granlund is a pending UFA anyway so adding him is tantamount to nothing.

Weber's clearly had a better season no doubt, but honestly if Duchene had played even close to the level he was expected to, no team would consider trading a 30-year old good asset for a 36 year-old potentially declining defenseman. That is a given.

Isn't that the point though, in a cap world even "a whopping $150K" means something. And Granlund would have to be given a new contract, goes without saying or so I thought. Duchene may not be the fit Nashville thought he would be hence the failure comment you stated above.
Either way the trade is too much in Nashville's favor so their should be more pieces going back Montreal's way or to even thing out a bit more.

Guess it's a no deal then. Weber is not exactly a desirable asset either, all things considered. I don't see anyone actually paying anything for the guy.

This trade is more teams saving each other from issues in future, not exactly to strengthen their current rosters. Weber's age has him risking dropping a cliff, Duchene's meh performance can turn out very, very bad for NSH. They could save each other in such exchange.

Cant see NSH making either of these trades

Getting rid of the Duchene contract would be a plus, but to take on a Weber contract while already having 3 30+ defensemen in top4 is counterproductive, to add on then losing a 22 year old Dman. NSH has Fabbro, Carrier, Davies, Farrance all in need of ice time (especially if they choose rebuild).
The recapture penalty can no longer exceed the players caphit. NSH may have to trade for him last year of contract or when Shea plans to retire and use in a LTIR spot.

Duchene has not been putting up points, and has a tendency to take plays off. However, he still manages to create prime opportunities. Duchene would benefit the young players entering the lineup far greater than Shea who takes away a spot. Im sure MTL would prefer other options than Duchene
