I kind of don't want to pursue a Monahan acquisition unless we're getting him for, like super cheap. We really need a defensive-minded playmaker center and Monahan is only one of those three things.

Laine would be pretty average since the Flames really don't have centres that can feed him. IMO Flames have to need a be much better at centre.

Given his UFA-2 status Gaudreau is worth like 1/2 of Konecny at UFA-4 and may start declining given his relative nearness to 30 while Konecny is in prime

Konecny has only ever got more than 50 points once gaudreau has never had less than 58 points. So gaudreau is way more valuable

Your opinion might have merit if they each had one year left on their contracts, although the fact that their 2021 seasons are very similar and their age difference might argue different. But Gaudreau is a one-year rental and Konecny has four years left on his current contract, so Gaudreau is worth considerably less. (This trade would be an AWFUL idea for Calgary (* late edit: meant PHILADELPHIA) without even factoring in the wild card of Nolan Patrick.)

Aside from the fact that Gaudreau has only one year left on his contract, not two, this comment is the usually knowledgeable and insightful post I have come to expect from you. Which makes the wildly erroneous comment you made on the contemporaneous John-Gibson-to-Edmonton construction all the more shocking.

Why an awful idea for Calgary? I think Konecny is the better player for what Calgary wants to do, I am in the camp of re signing Gaudreau but if you can add a high end RW in Konecny that is cost controlled and a middle 6 C or middle 6 RW at worst in Patrick then it makes the Flames better.

Personally I think at this point the Flames move on from one of their top line LW for either a 1C or a 1RW, Tkachuk's contract that is coming up won't be an easy fix and if Gaudreau is re signing long term I don't think it's out to lunch to see Tkachuk moved.

You're absolutely right. I meant an AWFUL deal for PHILADELPHIA. My fingers didn't type what I was thinking. And I didn't proofread carefully before sending.

Hahaha, I figured as much! This deal would be a game changer for the Flames and certainly welcomed by me

Yeah, senior moment. They're embarrassing, but I guess I'll have to get used to them. I suppose it's only a matter of time until I leave my car keys in the refrigerator.

By the way, and for your information so you'll learn to be forgiving of us old folks, the reason why so many of us talk to ourselves out loud is to remind ourselves what we're in the middle of doing.

I got all the time in the world to listen to an older person with an opinion, I may not always like it but someone that's been on this earth twice as long as I have always has something worth listening to!

Have a good one pal!
