I think I would rather draft a forward in this class instead. Kakko is a fine defensive forward, but they don’t need another winger that can’t put up points.

Buffalo passes on Krappo Kakko. If they consider trading the pick after the draft lottery they will get better offers than this.

Both Cozens and Reinhart have done good work on the right wing as well. If the Sabres determine that Matt Beniers is the best talent on the board instead of taking Dylan Guenther for example, they could still use either one of those two guys on the wing.

Why does Cozens play right wing?

Cozens is one of only a few forwards on the team it is a natural right hand shot. He began the year playing right wing on line 2 rather than forcing him into the number 2 center position as a rookie. He has also played center later in the year and done pretty well. Ideally he may remain at center, but if what’s best for the team is he play RW then that is where he would be.

Kakko and Hughes point totals aren't that far apart and Kakko is a better defensive player. Would you say Hughes is worth more than a top 3 pick? Or have both of their values dropped enough in 2 seasons that you'd take anyone in the top 3 this year over them?

Hughes has more potential, on a worse team, has almost double the amount of points as Kaako, is good defensively. Hughes is worth more than a top 3 pick and is worth much more than Kaako. I rather have Hughes than Kaako 1000%

The difference is that Jack Hughes is the generator of offense in New Jersey. He creates the scoring chances and other people finish them. Kakko does not create scoring chances as much as he is the beneficiary of other people doing the work.New Jersey missing Hughes from their lineup is detrimental to their entire offense, the Rangers can play without Kakko.
