I don't think ZAR is worth giving up a 2nd round pick. I you protect Sid, Malkin, Jake, Rust, Kap, McCann, and Teddy I think it is worth taking the risk of losing ZAR to expansion. I'd be more concerned with losing one of Pettersson or Matheson honestly. ZAR is fairly replaceable IMO.

from a cap standpoint i think it's worth it to pigeon-hole Seattle into taking Zucker. if they took Pettersson or Matheson they'd be doing the Pens a favor, frees up a spot for POJ

no one is signing Deangelo at 2.4.
Try league minimum.

They also won't be totally remaking their defense, They will lose Matheson to Seattle, but that's about it. Their defense has played well this year outside a game or two.

Key word being this year. Matheson and Ceci are having career years they likely won't replicate. Pettersson's fine but $4M's too much for "fine" in a cap league.

at least 2 of the 6 guys will be gone no matter what. someone will overpay Ceci for past production, and at least one of Pettersson or Matheson will be moved to make room for POJ. so they'll be remaking the defense a good bit either way.

and as far as Tony D i used the EvolvingWild projections. u could be right tho where it's like an Antonio Brown situation and he just has to take whatever he can get

Maybe they put his locker right next to Crosby's locker and it has the Tom Brady effect.

Ceci will move on but that's no great loss.
As for Matheson, he's got 2 years now under his belt with it turned around. His last year in FL wasn't nearly as bad as people made it out to be. It was the year prior to that.
So he'll be fine in moving him. there will be a huge need for Defense this year. It won't be hard to move a defenseman who's playing well.
