now obviously, the leafs would have to make some moves in order for this to happen, but this would help out the kings a ton. they gain a 2nd round pick as well as losing a terrible contract, and it helps out the leafs by giving them a gritty hard working top 2 defenceman. what does everyone think?

    Hold on.
So this helps the kings because they are getting assets for a bad contract
But it helps the leafs because... they are getting a top 2 defenseman?
A real top 2 defenseman should be worth 9.5 million or at least close to it

Leafs signed Brodie for 5 mil. If they can sign defensemen better and younger than doughty for half the price why would they give up anything for doughty? The kings are stuck with him.

Teams are not going to retain on 6 year contracts. Owners are already getting crushed playing the last 2 seasons losing significant amounts of money, do you think an owner would sign off on eating another $12M?

    No. Doesn’t fit right.

And why would the Kings retain for 6 years?

Putting the trade aside - yeah, I think there absolutely are scenarios where owners should/would do that if given the opportunity. They would still be saving money so long as they don't piss it away elsewhere. Just sign somebody cheaper to fill that role.

Where is this bad contract you say the Leafs are losing? They have none on their current roster.

Doughty is worth every dollar of his contract. The Kings aren't trading him.

Well, the Leafs fans on here were proposing the Kings retain 1/2 of Doughty's contract last season, so I guess this is progress. Kings still decline.

Wow, I've seen plenty of Leaf's ACGM's that MASSIVELY overvalue any combination of Kerfoot, Engvall, or Dermott. But this about takes the cake. Absolutely terrible.

That’s a good point, and I think that works with contracts with like 1-3 yrs remaining but willing taking a $2M cap hit right off of the top 4-6 years down the road? I dunno, that’s dead money.

Leafs certainly don't want Doughty and his never ending 9m contract (with retention). Lots of better ways to spend 9m.
Beside Doughty has a NMC...He has retired to California.

Try making a Leaf lineup with 9m Doughty. Leafs would have to reduce talent in other areas so the team would be worse.

Absolutely hilarious proof of Poe's Theorem. And you even snookered a couple of my wonderful Kings colleagues!

    Bravo!
