Wings aren't paying to acquire two more years of Zucker at 5.5M.

Wings are going to pass, doesn't work with their rebuild timeline and wouldn't take on the high salary for a draft pick and this time. They are looking to acquire more picks not the other way around

Since we are practically giving him away, why not just flip him retaining salary for better picks? Lol

Edmonton passing on a young top 4 D on a good contract for absolutely nothing would be such an Edmonton thing to do. They’d rather get them stolen off them, not the other way around lol.

That’s typically what you do with bad contracts. The value only comes when Detroit retains on them but that eats up one of the three slots for multiple years.

Being a little dramatic.

Yeah but Detroit doesn’t really have many bad contracts left after this year. Would just have Nielsen, Dekeyser, and Panik. And only Nielsen and Dekeyser are worth doing it next year. Then panik the year after next. Heck you don’t even have to flip Zucker right away. He plays better as the main guy on the line. Even on a “down” year this year he is still on pace to be around 20 goals and 40 points in a full season. I’d bet the wings could get a solid return for that production making only 2.75 million per year.

If he and his contract are so good why are the Pens trading him for nothing?

They aren’t. This person is lol. It’s a really bad trade for the pens, but if this was offered by the pens to the wings then they should take it. Just because a team doesn’t get a lot for a player doesn’t mean the player is bad. It’s usually bad management. Teams make bad trades all the time lol

Wings? I doubt even they would do this. The guy is Pittsburgh's 7th defenseman for 5v5 TOI/GP, 6th in overall 5v5 TOI and 10th in %TOI vs Elites. He is, at best, a 3rd pairing defenseman. And yet he carries a $4M+ cap hit for a whole bunch of years yet... nope, not even the Red Wings would do this trade without a sweetener.

My bad, got you confused with the wing nuts. I mean judging the guys 5v5 TOI vs players that played like 2 games when our whole defense was ravaged with injuries means you are going to make up every little silly excuse to parrot what trolls say and don’t actually watch hockey outside of the Oilers. So there is no point to debate lol
