Why would LA do this? They gave up a 2nd for Andersson and are very happy with his progress so far. Kempe is worth a 1st+ by himself.

This is a terrible trade for the Kings.

I know his stats are awful the last couple years and it's a tough sell. But I think he would fit in well with forward group and get back to scoring. And Ristolainen would give us the mobility on the back-end that we are desperately missing right now.

    Thanks for the input!

I have to admit, I wasn't sure what the right value would be for both these two guys. I wanted to add Kempe and I thought putting in Andersson was not too big of an ask, but I guess I was wrong. I would do the deal without Andersson involved if that makes a lot more sense, with the same pieces going back.

    Thanks for the input!

Buffalo would rather keep Skinner than deal with Shea Weber‘s contract. Drouin‘s value has never been lower, I would think they would rather send Risto elsewhere and not have to play him eight times next season.

We're looking for a #1 LD to play opposite Drew Doughty, not Brett Kulak. We're pretty set for the future at RD with Roy, Walker and a couple of excellent prospects in both the system and pipeline, so we have little need for Josh Brook, either. Finally, I don't think we would even trade Adrian Kempe alone for that package.

LA isn't trading Kempe unless there's a 1st coming back. Even then, probably not. He's a big piece of this team's future.

i agreed your point, the problem is contracts.... 9,000,000 for 6 years, i don't think skinner will be able to score 60 points per years till 34yo and again... 60 pts for 9,000,000

and for mobility weber will retire soon so we'll have the cap space to sign a good RHD

I get it, for sure. There is a reason why I was trying to add him to the mix! I guess the return needs to be even higher than I thought.

Ya for sure, I too don't like the contract but no trade will be perfect for Habs, you need to give something up. I am not sure I share your optimism of Weber retiring soon, and even if he does we will still have some of that contract on our cap. It's far from ideal.

    Thanks!

Have habs fans soured on Weber that much this season? I remember before the season started some habs fans said he was still a top 10D in the NHL (laughable I know), but now it seems like In all trades he’s a massive cap dump

He's gotten so slow that it's extremely noticeable. He still has a huge shoot, is a great leader and locker room guy I am sure, but he can't do top minutes anymore. I find his play drastically decreased this year and it could be due to the amount of games we are playing over a more condensed schedule which doesn't help. But I am concerned about his long-term viability. The defense as a whole looks slow, so ideally I would remove him and bring in some speed and offensive skill to the backend. That's why I wanted Risto, plus Drouin needs a fresh start in a smaller market.

    Thanks!

    1. Drouin has played well enough over the past 2 seasons to warrant keeping him around. His production hasn't decreased he was still on pace to eclipse 40 points this year just he has passed more this year than in typical years.

    2. Skinner has wayyy less value than Weber even with how poorly Weber has played. I am not a Weber fan either, but at least Weber is still serviceable in the bottom 4. Skinner is bad at everything except scoring and we have our sniper now at 10 times Lee's the cost. Montreal passes.

the weber case is complex... it's pessimist to say he'll retired soon IMO
But if he retired before the end of his contract, it will be Nashviille to deal with cap issues; not montreal cause they are not the one who had make the contract in the first place

I totally understand your point of view on Drouin and I am not as down on him as the majority of the fanbase seems to be right now. That being said though, I believe playing in Montreal is affecting him negatively because of his style of play and the repercussions that has with media and fans. Drouin is a valuable player with skill, but I don't think Montreal atmosphere is where he is happiest and playing at his best. I think a change of scenery would benefit him greatly.

I also understand your point on Skinner being less valuable than Weber and being on a worse contract. But I think adding Risto and Skinner gives us more speed which we seem to have lost this year. And most importantly, speed on the defensive side. Risto can bring the play out of the defensive zone and add offense, I am not sure anyone besides for Petry can do that on rosters right now (possibly Romanov but it's a lot to ask of him at this time).

    Thanks for your input!

I agree about Drouin and the media circus that is Montreal lol. I just hate losing a valuable young player like him.

As for Skinner and Weber, why not just leave them out of the deal. I mean if you want to move Weber at least recoup something for him. Otherwise just structure a deal around Risto and Drouin. Taking Skinner while giving up Weber is too much just to get Risto back then you add in Drouin and we are majorly overpaying. Risto's value is similar to Drouin's anyway, though I doubt Buffalo wants drouin value wise your looking at a 1 for 1 maybe at most we add a 2nd or 3rd.
