Description
One other approach NJ could take into the offseason is to stay quiet and not do too much. They can stick with a similar core they had this season. NJ could acquire some futures if they decide to take on bad contracts. It could be a smart idea not messing around with the core they already have and try to show the young guys that they do trust them and expect them to too another step forward next year. It's also important to remember that NJ has had to play in probably the most difficult division in hockey(PIT , NYR, NYI, WSH, BOS). They have a really bright future with a core of Hughes, Hischier, Bratt, Zacha, Smith and Blackwood. Thye also have guys who proved this year that they can play in the nhl (Mcleod, Bastian, Sharangovich, and Kuokkanen). They could make moves for depth players and bad contracts but tbh, I wouldn't to surprised if nj just played the waiting game and went forward with this same group.

Oilers are not trading a 1st to dump Neal's contract. His buyout is under 2mil and he's been playing better lately.

Vancouver's offer is fair but not going to happen. No need for Vancouver to give away prospects and high draft picks for one more year of Loui

Backes trade is what the Oilers should aim for if dumping Neal.. like Neal, Samo and first for Wood

If Devils are going to sink a year swallowing bad contracts, these are really smart deals.

EDM - I would take that pick any day. And have been high on Blumel for a while (he is the Czech Blake Coleman!).

VAN - Eriksson deal is easy one to buy out for team with cash and cap space. The pick could be #33 in a loaded draft and Gadjovich looks like he will be useful fourth liner with some scoring ability.

NYI - I would ask for a d-man before Bellows, even Aho as they are both unprotected in expansion.

Draft - Clarke, Corrobato and Tulomaala would be great (although we’d probably have to trade up for Corronato).

Well done. Good team here.

Are you saying that as a way to hang onto Blumel or as a way to acquire Wood?

Both Edmonton is heavy on LD prospects and Wood could be nice middle 6 winger. Basically like Backes trade Boston got back Kase hoping he could be 2nd line winger.. hasn't worked out for them because injuries but that was the idea.

Devils need defense on both sides. We have a bunch of guys who could be top-4 (Bahl, Mukhamadullin, Okhotyuk, Walsh, Edwards, McCarthy...and possible our 1st pick this year). None of those guys are locks to join Smith and Severson in top-4. Ideally we would add good-skating, defensive LHD or offensive RHD that could replace Subban one day (good at passing, delivering puck to Left-handed centers, preferably with a shot that can at least hit the net).

Got anyone who fits one of those?
And if you want to keep Blumel in there, would be great too.

Oilers won’t move a first unless getting a player that can be an impact on the roster moving Neal would be convenient but not needed. 1st and Neal for zacha maybe.

Devils wouldn’t do 1st for Zacha.
The idea is that Neal’s contract and lower production gives him negative value in a trade.
So Oilers give up a high pick just to unload Neal.

Neal had COVID before the season and got another illness right afterwards that threw his conditioning right off before season started been trying to catch up all year and just starting to look normal again so his drop in production is very understandable. Best of times he is overpaid but oilers could just buy him out for 1.9 dead space if push came to shove it’s really not worth burning a first rounder to remove.

With gadjovich, since he is expansion draft eligible I could see the Canucks choosing to move him to avoid losing him for nothing. Plus, if Gadjovich isn’t on the team, then MacEwan and holtby are the two most attractive options for Seattle. If the Canucks can make it so Seattle takes holtby, then I don’t have a problem with using Gadjovich to dump cap.

That being said, I wouldn’t also add this years 2nd as well. Maybe a later round pick instead.

Canucks don’t need to dump Eriksson, they can easily get through next year with him on the team, but it would be nice to drop the contract if the price is right

I have followed Gadj on the Comets this year and as you probably know he is having a good year. It is a diluted league this year but his style is to be planted in front of the net. I am going to pay close attention to him in our last 6 games.
