Labanc to Islanders and Burns to SEA

Description
LABANC TO ISLES: No secret that Labanc would be a perfect fit on the Isles (fun fact: he'll also be a home-state boy). Keep in mind the 1st coming back SJ's way would be a late pick likely between 22-31. It's fair value.

NIETO: Instead of doing a 1.5mil cap hit over 2yrs, have a handshake deal where you overpay Nieto for this year at 2mil so that SJ can pay him 1mil next year to save as much money for Ferraro and Hertl's extensions as possible. Of course the big help is Raanta's 4mil coming off the books on a 1yr deal and have Melnichuk replace him.

SIMEK: Anywhere for anything -- but just because he's not 22 or scoring 15 goals a season doesn't mean he's a negative asset. He's 28, which is prime years for a dman, a defensive 3rd pairing physical guy who plays hard, has decent skating, hits a ton, and while ideally his cap hit would be 2mil for 2 more seasons instead of 2.25mil for 3 more, that isn't a terrible difference. PLUS: there'll be some teams that will lose their depth guy on defense with the expansion draft -- Simek is a good replacement for that. I get that he might not return a 3rd or even a 4th, but he's not a negative asset. A 5th is reasonable. Sharks keep him if he's a right-handed shot -- they're too cramped on the left side with Ferraro+Kniazhov+MEV (and his unmovable contract) who's actually been very solid over the last stretch of 12-13 games on a side note, not to mention Pasichnuk and Kniazev waiting in the ranks.

HOLL: Leafs are ready to lose him for nothing so this is a good deal going back their way for fair value.

UFA SIGNINGS: I can see Granlund, Barrie, Raanta, and Armia all taking those deals. They're fair value yet on the higher expected offer side, plus there's a Finnish connection for three of those guys and Barrie gets not just his fair cap hit but the term he's looking for.

Highly doubt Leafs expose Holl. 4-4-1 seems much more likely route.

I like what I have seen from Simek
And think he would be moveable.

What’s the current ask for Karlsson?

I don't think anyone wants to take that contract on. Everyone on this website seems to want 50% retention and the Sharks to throw in a 1st. He's not getting moved imo.

Probably not.
But Devils have big time need on defense.
And tons of cap room (actually hitting cap floor might be an issue if Seattle takes Subban).
So while unlikely, NJD is one possible place for him.

Current ask for Karlsson is “please take him? Please.”

"HOLL: Leafs are ready to lose him for nothing so this is a good deal going back their way for fair value."

I read this scenario all the time....but really there is no logic behind it. So the Leafs expose both Holl and Dermot knowing one will be taken. So if they trade Holl and Dermot is selected by Seattle, the Leafs are down two NHL Dmen, instead of just one if they don't make the trade.
I'm just not saying it's a Leafs scenario but for other teams also.

Seattle still has think Burns is good value at 8m X 4 or else they won't select him. Maybe Seattle think there is much better value in signing Barrie and Granlund (which you did with the Burns cap space) than selecting Burns.

Granlund is a poor excuse for a center, great wing though.

If they're going to be taking a (likely mid-tier or depth) player from 31 other teams, and only have 3 spots for right-handed starters on defense and a choice to pick from for many middle-6 centers (top-level centers won't be exposed), chances are that they won't be signing players like Barrie and Granlund.

They'll take a run at a top-level UFA guy like Dougie Hamilton, yes, but not Barrie or Granlund.

Sharks would do a Subban for Karlsson deal immediately.

Overpay on the Seattle trade. The whole point of moving Burns is so in the long term future you can pay Leonard and Merkley,
