Kotkaniemi's career vs other 3OV forwards.

Will KK become a consistent 50-60 point player in the NHL (top 6 center) ?

Since there has been lots of talk of KK's mediocre play lately and frankly I've been curious to see where other 3OV picks stats were at the same age and games played as KK. Voila:

ONLY FWDs PICKED 3RD OVERALL SINCE 2000 (KK's birth year)

Career statistics under the age of 21. (Technically KK turns 21 in July but only 3 games left in the season so lets imagine his season is done tonight)

DRAFT NAME GP G A PTS P/G
2006 Jonathan Toews 146 58 65 123 0.84
2000 Marian Gaborik 206 74 81 155 0.75
2009 Matt Duchene 200 63 83 146 0.73
2016 Pierre-Luc Dubois 164 47 62 109 0.66
2014 Leon Draisaitl 116 23 43 66 0.57
2012 Alex Galchenyuk 167 38 56 94 0.56
2003 Nathan Horton 126 42 27 69 0.55
2011 Jon Huberdeau 117 23 36 59 0.50
2013 Jonathan Drouin 89 6 34 40 0.45
2018 Jesperi Kotkaniem 168 22 40 62 0.37
2007 Kyle Turris 66 8 13 21 0.32
2001 Alexandr Svitov 103 6 13 19 0.18
2015 Dylan Strome 18 1 1 2 0.11

Since some of those guys like Strome didn't get a fair chance to play yet by that age, here are their stats as of their 168th game (# of games KK is at now in career)

I like KK and he is clearly younger than many on that list and probably was rushed into the league but lets not beat around the bush here any longer. So far, he has been a disappointment.

IMHO - next year is the year we find out if KK is going to be a stud or not. 99% of the time, good players are established by age 21 in the NHL. Chances are if you aren't established by that time, you never will be.
