Description
Not saying all these guys are available or even that all of them are definitely 2Cs, but this is a semi comprehensive list of guys who I think could be targets for Ottawa this offseason. I don't like all or even most of them.

If anyone sticks out let me know what you think.

Personally I don’t see anything there in Monahan. Hasn’t been able to do anything get his current team over the hump. Ottawa should either stick to their guns instead of paying his potentially hefty price tag. I think Monahan is good but he could be too pricey

id be alright with going after strome and jost, probably not the most expensive to acquire and probably not pure 2c's either, but i think theyd be nice additions

I don't think his talent just disappeared.i think he's still a good player, but could use a fresh start. I think he would really benefit from joining a young, positive environment in a City he is familiar with. I like him as a fit with Tim Stützle as he grows into a star. I don't think he would be unreasonably expensive to acquire

I like Jost. Great defensive forward, and if he could find his offensive game in a new role, it could be really good for Ottawa. Strome can be a 2C, but I think he would drop significantly in production in a different situation than he has in New York, and he will probably look for a big payday as a UFA.

You hit the nail on the head with Jost. This has been the first real season he was left at C and with steady linemates that have some skill. That being said Jost has basically locked himself into the 3C role and his offense is slowly coming around and because of that he is going to get protected in the XD get a reasonable contract and be a key piece for the Avs going forward so it’s going to take a really good offer to convince the Avs to move him. I still think his offensive upside is in the 40-45pt range with some consistent PP time.

Tampa's not trading Cirelli, you are underrating Hertl and Danault

Cirelli isn't going anywhere since we'll pay whatever it costs to move Johnson, but hypothetically what kind of package are you putting together if you really want Tampa to consider trading Cirelli?

I think Cirelli would be the best, but probably require us to take on a bad contract AND pay more. I really liked that Monahan trade you posted the other day, I think Calgary might look at shopping him to shake things up and get younger so that could reasonably work for both sides. Not really a huge fan of many of the other options though (Hertl is excellent but would be too expensive, Glass would be great but White would be the only intriguing piece for them and I'm not sure they'd want to give up Glass for White, Vilardi is good but LA would want Brannstrom and I think that would be a loss for Ottawa, I like Jost but I'm not sure he's a 2C, especially not yet, Danault will want too much term/aav and I just don't think he's worth that kinda commitment when he doesn't provide much offense, not a big fan of Strome/Granlund/Haula/Wennberg/Kerfoot, Foligno is a LW, I like Patrick and he'd be a good option that likely wouldn't cost too much to take a flier on, Krejci might be a decent budget option if the term is max 2 years, Nuge would be excellent but that's a commitment that we would then have to build around because he'd likely require a 50mil+ contract).

So basically I'd start with Cirelli, Monahan, or Nuge for a vet but all of those require significant investment/commitment of some kind (which the team would have to be ready to take). For young guys I'd look for Patrick or Glass to not sacrifice as much from our pipeline. Krejci is a nice fallback who should be affordable.

Danault and Hertl are good players, but I'm not interested in them given what their next contract will look like. I like Hertl, but he's a pending UFA who could be in for a really big payday. Danault is a great Defensive forward with great advanced analytics, but to me, he's not an everyday 2C, and I wouldn't want to pay 2C money for him. Hard for me to justify something like 4.5-5mil for a 2C who averages 11 goals a season.

Jost is a bust, Nolan sadly is also a bust do to his injury problems, anyone over 25/26 should not even be a consideration, they too old for OTT window. They should not make ANY move this offseason and see how Pinto does in a full season and if Stutzle can transition to C.

Some of the guys aren't really different makers as so called 2Cs. Ottawa just might have the guys in their system that are their future. If Gourde was willing to waive his NTC, and the Tampa might move him for cap reasons, he would be a good fit Sens

Haven't really given it much thought. Just included him to be thorough. I don't know if there is a deal that makes a lot of sense for both sides. I don't think Ottawa has any assets that help Tampa be competitive now (maybe Tierney at 50% retained would interest them, but that's not exactly a huge piece) And I don't imagine a deal for pure future makes sense for Tampa. The only young roster player I'd consider moving is White because he's probably the odd man out If they add a C.

jost is not a bust at all, clearly you have no idea what you are talking about. Explain how he is a best of an NHL player without brining up draft position...draft position is not an indicator of being a bust when compared to the rest of the draft class team come out of and at the forward position

SO go ahead explain how he is a bust of an NHL player despite being one of the better Fwds to come out 1st round especially in his surrounding picks. If you cant talk about the player and his abilities on the ice without just looking up his draft position and say he has this many points....you are not qualified to label anyone a bust

Exactly, and if I’m Ottawa I’d rather let Norris, Pinto develop into those roles as they both are capable with Norris looking like he could be top line long term and Pinto has similar potential (lesser) but similar. I’d rather run them then squeeze in Monahan who’ll cost a first plus some good prospect’ish. Obviously if there’s a good price tag then it’s worth it but I don’t see Calgary parting for cheap.

I agree. Plus "no cost" for Monahan if you trade Colin White, Lassi Thomson + Logan Brown or Joey Daccord
