Im no panthers fan, but with the Flames he was 3rd line and no rly importance to the team, compared to the Panthers were Quenneville gave him a chance to prove what really he is worth (a former top 5 pick)

they have playoff sam bennett right now, he got moved, motivated by the move and when he plays motivated he is a great player. if this was done in the off season i doubt you get him playing as well as he is now and it wont sustain through next year. i will always root for bennett, great guy in the community but you would never get the results from him in calgary.

started declining big time when they took him off backlunds line in his second season and replaced him with tkachuk, if the flames could do it all over i doubt they would change a thing.

The Flsmes played him on the 4th line with Milan Lucic and he’s finally free. Nobody can overcome the weight of Lucic

right, but I don't want that to be the case here. I always like to see guys who look like busts randomly succeed

Probably a little of both. New team, new opportunity, new motivation. He has a history of playing well when motivated. Wouldn't expect this level to sustain for a long period of time, but I think he'll do better from here on out than with Calgary.

It's true, but he's given a chance in one team and wasn't in another. I don't expect point per game pace going forward, but the Panthers are gonna get way more out of him than Calgary did.

Lots of things.... Usage, SH% and PDO

Flames he was 3rd line W with Lucic and Backlund as his most common linemates....Florida hes playing at 2c with Huberdeau and Duclair as his most common linemates. Playing with one of the Top wingers in the league this year helps.

hes on a heater, doubling his sh% on the panthers from 6.45% to 12.5% and PDO 0.941 on the Flames to 1.084 on the Pantehrs

The returns are good right now, now its on Bennett to continue this and not let it just be a small sample size heater

He is getting almost 5 more mins a night and playing in the top 6. Playing in the top PP unit and PK. So for starters way more of an opportunity in FLA to succeed.

But keep in mind Huberdeau has a high shooting percentage compared to his normal average, and Duclair’s is almost double since Bennett’s arrival.

I think it's hard to play Bennett's game all year long. Which is why he'll never be worth a huge contract.

No trying to insinuate he’s a bust, more whether he’s a middle 6 guy or a bottom 6 guy. There is a big difference in contract between those players.

Right. If anything, it probably gets him his QO for next year which he would not have gotten otherwise. In general, people are making statements about performance this year that are too strong. Is this what Bennet will play like on FLA for years to come? It’s not out of the question but it’s far from a sure thing.

right, I got what you mean, it's just the way he was playing in Calgary doesn't live up to 4th overall pick standards

The kid's just elite idk lol
Slowly becoming one of my favorite Panthers
In his 2nd game with us he took a 10 minute misconduct for fighting, already standing up for our team
He's an absolute beauty

Orlov's currently tied for 29th in EVP among defensemen with McAvoy, Ekholm, Fowler, D. Toews, and Makar. The difference is that until March, Orlov had two points this year. It's a fair offer.

Something was up there, no doubt. But draft position is a case idol that makes you want to take the risk or assume there’s more there. Bennett has had 5(?) full seasons and he’s been middling at best. The proper assumption is to assume he will continue to be middling on average.

Florida payed what they did because they saw untapped potential in Calgary. This guy was drafted where he was for a reason, and performed good in the playoffs because he has it in him. Calgary's failure to develop him doesn't necessarily mean that he isn't skilled. Time after time players get traded for a change of scenery then excel. A recent example would be Fabbri of DET.

essentially this isn't coming out of nowhere. We can't simply say he's a 30 point guy because that's what he was in Calgary.

I think he can push 50 in 82 next year. Florida is willing to give him what he needs to thrive.

I don’t think 50 is out of the question, especially if you throw him on a line with Huberdeau. Thing is until he puts up that 50 point season it’s all just a dream, especially this far into his career.

I think the Panthers paid a bit much but I like the move for both sides. Bennett is a playoff performer and FLA has decided they want to make consistent trips there, and the possible untapped potential is a plus. Panthers also probably get him at a reasonable deal for next year if they make it a prove it deal. Wins all around.

People like to **** on Calgary for this trade as of they are the only team to see one of their ex players succeed elsewhere. Some other examples of change pf sceneries that wprked out really well recently are Burakovsky and Fiala. Hell JT Mlller could count

It happens all the time. It's not just restricted to Calgary.

But it is true that you guys failed to develop him. You'd be burying your head in the sand if bottom six minutes with Lucic and Dube were the way to grow what could have been your desperately needed top line center.
Even when he got a chance with more ice time, it was breif and staggered. He wasn't set up to thrive in Calgary and it shows with what he has done with the opportunity that he's been given since.

The problem wasnt his time with Looch and Dube, it was 3 years stuck on Jankowski's wing. I dont disagree he was incredibly mismanaged in Calgary, I only hope for the best for him in Florida (if I wasnt a Bolts fan I would be cheering for the Panthers this year)

His line is just running a hot streak.

'For example, since Bennett’s arrival in Florida, Huberdeau’s shooting percentage is at 20 percent. That’s compared to his season average of 16 percent, which in itself is above his career average shooting percentage (12 percent). Duclair, in the last 10 games, has a shooting percentage of 22.7 percent, which is more than double his season’s overall shooting percentage (10 percent). While Bennett is shooting at a 13.9 percent clip, which is closer to his career average 10 percent.'

We have playoff bennett in the regular season? How does that work
To me it seems like this is what we will always have, or at least a less lucky version of him (50-60 pts)
