Why do it at all? Laine kinda stinks.

Great to see Bracco & Chlapik signed

Very not great to see Bouchard used to unload

Then they buyout the bad contract they get back?

That trade makes it seem like Neal has a -10 WAR

And also sometimes shoots the puck in his own net

    It's definitely interesting

Pulju has been lovely this season but played most of it beside a player putting up similar results to late 20s Gretzky & Mario but Laine gets way way more PP toi

So maybe about even in terms of scoring in 20-21

Pulju much much better possession numbers

    By career pts/60 Laine 2.6 Pulju 1.5

    So idk ultimately

Laine doesn't stink, he just has zero playmaking skills. We know he can score, he just needs a C getting him the puck.

Honestly, as soon as the Jets trade happened I knew it was bad news for Laine. He had skilled players around him in Winnipeg but nothing remotely close in Columbus.

I don’t get the appeal with Barrie more than surface points, a look into any deeper statistics doesn’t justify keeping him in Edmonton

Barrie is worse defensively than he is offensively
Bouchard has the ability to be a massive bargain next year
Laine is roughhh defensively, while JP is top 15 5v5 defensive forwards this year (JP also shooting below expected, he’ll breakout next year)
Stalock was one of the worst goalies in GSAx last year and hasn’t played a game since the bubble, Kosko is better than him, and not worth burrying considering the savings
    Neal buyout is easy
Yamo’s production warrants a lot less on his next deal
Love the idea of slepy coming back, would be cool to see Holland work some magic there
That third line would be an absolute force though

Too much, too long for RNH - he’s a perimeter player who has mostly underperformed given his draft perigee and contract. I’d be willing to bring him back, but not at more than 6M per, and not for longer than 3-4 years.

Too much for Yamo - the guy has played 100 career games and has only 20 points though 50 games this season. He might yet be worth 5.5M, but not yet. I’d be looking at, say, 7-8 Million over 3-4 years, structured in such a way that he’d still be an RFA when the contract expires.

Other than that, not bad. The Laine sign and trade with Columbus is a creative proposition - like the out of the box thinking there.

The first trade is a "thanks but no thanks" - we want a top-6 center coming back if we're going to trade Laine, and otherwise will try rehabbing him ourselves.

The second trade is a "hell no". Center (need) for goaltender (opposite of need)? Absolutely not.

Hes a one dimensional liability....but he doesn’t even score anymore.
