At the beginning of the season he was, but now that he has to handle a full workload he's clearly below.

They've started the same amount of games now and Allen has a -1.3 GSAx while Price has a -8.11.

This is just recency bias, Allen has been the better goalie... he has saved 7 more goals than Price this season.

He's not been good. I hope it's because of the injury.

Yup recency bias is huge on ACGM. Players have a bad stretch and all of a sudden they suck.

I've never said Allen sucks lmao. He's an high-end backup goalie who put up respectable stats at the beginning of the season with decent resting. Now that he's the de facto starter, he's not better than Price in the same role. It's like comparing sheltered Vince Dunn's analytics with a defenseman who plays tough minutues like Seth Jones and claiming Dunn is better. It's apples and oranges.

He’s been no worse then Price as the starter, in fact he’s been better. His GSAx is 7 better then Price. I know that’s his full season stats so with Allen as the starter his stats are worse and the gap isn’t as big, but he’s still been better.

You can't just look at the stats blindly. Since Price's injury, Allen's GSAx is -3.81. He's getting exposed and his overall numbers are inflated because of the brights spots he was part of at the beginning of the season when the team was playing like crazy and he's always been more rested.

I literally just said I wasn’t looking at the stats blindly and that I understand they’ve gotten worse since he’s been the starter I just didn’t know how much lol read it again. But according to my math -3.81 is better then -8.11 lol

You realize that GSAx is cumulative right? Allen has played 8 games in that span and has -3.81. At this pace he'd pass Price soon enough if the season continued.

I think since Price has been injured the team has been over reliant on Allen (I think I read he has started most games in the league since Price's injury) and yes his play has slipped, but its not like the team was over reliant on Price when they were both healthy... so really we should expect Price to have a better GSAx than Allen, not the other way around.

Edit:
So it's kind of been proven that Allen will provide top goaltending when rested (he did this with STL last year too).

The only thing Price has proven is that he has zero consistency to his game anymore which is unacceptable for a $10.5M cap hit.

I would take Allen over Price any day. If MTL can get Seattle to take Price then find Allen a reliable partner for a 1A 1B like Bernier and invest the savings from Price into the actual team in front of these goalies.

I’m aware of how the stats work their paces are nearly identical. And rested or not Allen out performed Price significantly early on. I think Allen has been the better goalie this year and clearly you don’t so no point of going back and forth, have a good one.

Price was not overused, but still played significantly more back-to-back games than Allen did.

If the contracts enter the talk, it's a completely different story. Seattle taking Price is pure fantasy and the price to make it work won't be remotely worth it. He's here to stay, and we're lucky to have Allen for now and it's possible to find an equivalent goaltender every year in free agency.
