I think any Dumba trade is going to focus on futures because of the fact that cap space is driving the trade speculation. I’m also not terribly interested in Copp but that’s just me.

I think just getting value for him is coming first honestly

Does copp play more center or wing? I’m not that familiar with him. Statwise he’s had a good season this year and otherwise been a bottom 6 player. If he’s a center might b something to build around but if he’s a wing then Winnipeg would need to add, likely more than they rightfully should.

This is more a trade for trade’s sake though, value would be a 1st and/or a good prospect. MIN should only really care about losing Foligno to expansion and that shouldn’t be tough to make happen if both Greenway and Soucy are exposed.

As it stands, the Wild don’t have room for Copp and I’m not sold he’ll hit 50 points again.

Copp had success on the wing this year but he’s gonna have a 4 to 4.5 arb award and walk to UFA next year. I’m skeptical he can repeat his scoring numbers in the future since he’s proven to be a bottom 6 guy over his career.

He doesn’t really add anything and just makes it harder to get Boldy in the lineup.

Boldy will get a top 9 spot, its parise who should be moving down

Right but I don’t see how that has anything to do with a Copp for Dumba trade. Maybe I’m misunderstanding what you’re trying to say but this deal doesn’t make sense for MIN.

On the same page, Parise is probably bought out this off-season. He’s not a factor in the top 9 right now.

Not sure if you seen this, but either wild gm already has a handshake deal with Seattle to protect dumba, & Talbot, or is going to

With Soucy and Greenway available, Seattle probably asked to make sure the one they like is available as the insurance for not taking Talbot. i.e. to make sure they don’t trade the one they want away. Expansion isn’t really complicated for the Wild.

As a Jets fan I agree, think Copp is a bottom six guy, both he and Lowry having career seasons this wierd season isn't a coincidence, Copp has especially benefited from playing a lot of time with Ehlers.

If a team acquires Copp and pays him much more then $3M I think they might regret it.

I agree with you on all your points in this thread, but buying out Parise, that doesn't make a lot of sense. It would help the cap next season but the 3 years following it doesn't save much of anything and then you have several years of just under 900k. The only option Wild have with Parise is if he comes to play next season realizes he has lost it and then decides his injuries from the past are to significant and he just can't play anymore. Then Wild can put him LTIR. With his back it shouldn't be a problem.
With his scratches of late and demotion to fourth line I'm certain he in his own head has decided this might be it for him.

If I'm the Wild I wouldn't bother with this trade.

I think the buyout is based on Parise wanting to play. If they can do a mutual termination, I think that’s the best case. From what I understand that would be the same as Parise retiring from a cap recapture perspective (~5 mil hit against the cap until the end of the deal) and Parise gets to try and find a spot.

Yeah not sure how the mutual contract termination route would work.
