That is true. Unless Columbus fires him, they own his rights until the first day of free agency

Even if they did fire him now for whatever reason, Leafs would need permission to talk to Tortorella. It's a weird thing but Columbus still has his rights til free agency.

I think some facts would be important in your analysis. Torts has won eight playoffs rounds in twelve NHL playoff appearances.. Hardly the difference maker the Leafs need.

Torts in his last 15 years should remembered for his on/off ice rants....not for successful coaching ability.

Tortarella would instantly make this team worse. He's a mediocre coach who cant do anything without his goalies playing out of their minds.
