As a Leaf fan, I'm not against the idea. Leafs get needed cap space,,,which will net a player and then cross the fingers on those "two firsts" from the Rangers.
I think the Flames need to add a centre not a winger in a any trade.

Monahan needs to play with panarin, he can't drive play on his own

Also smith is overpaid and coleman is WAY underpaid

Nylander is way better than Monahan. Monahan really isn't that great anymore so I don't know why the rangers would do this.

The leafs dont do this because it doesnt really help them out, the Rangers dont do this because if they could get Nylander for that they wouldnt flip him, or if you wanna look it the other way, pay that much for Monahan who isnt worth any combination of the other pieces involved here

The Leafs are a win now team... two ‘firsts’ does absolutely nothing for them now.

Not to mention how underrated Nylander truly is.

The Flames have enough center depth, we need help on the RW

The leafs have to listen on offers for Nylander/marner/Tavares (if he'll waive) for cap reasons but they don't have to do any trade.

Any trade they do has to help them now as they're win now. So unless those pieces are moved immediately for the win now piece it doesn't make sense.

But let's imagine the Leafs can't sign Hyman for let's say 5m without moving Nylander.....then would you still the trade as proposed?
The trade is really two first rounders and 7m cap space for three years for Nylander.

No unless I could also turn those futures into win now pieces.

It's not like new York is the only tame to trade Nylander to. If he has to be traded we should be looking to get things we need (like a cost controlled three c, a high end young goalie or upgrade on Holl (I like the guy but if Nylander is going their should be some cap space for it)

I don't disagree with you. But you can't always get what you want in a trade. The NY trade was for two first rounders...and it's frees up 7m cap space. That's where the value of the trade lies...finding 7m value right (who ever that player or players will be)...and the two picks are down the road benefits (hopefully). These type of trades are difficult. The Rangers and most teams don't have much cap space to take on a 7m contract without money coming back. And if a team has 7m in cap space, maybe they are better spending on a UFA and keeping the picks instead of making a trade.

It's possible but there are teams who a guy like Nylander would make sense to who have cap space (teams who need young scoring): njd and ana both come to mind.

Honestly as incredible as he is I still think I slightly lean towards trading marner (though this season has made me really shift on that and maybe I don't prefer it anymore). Marner is better than Nylander but is he worth like 1.7 nylanders? ****, I think I've convinced myself he is... I'm leaving the above to show the thought process.

The guy to trade is of course Tavares but that is in a video game world. In the real world it won't happen

What then is price on Tavares? Rangers need a top-6 center since both of ours are UFA after one more year.

I just can't see him being traded while the team is competitive and he hasn't regressed hard.

While it makes sense on paper or in a video game world, I just can't see it happening in the real world.

He's the big Ufa who turned down larger offers to come home. He has been given our captaincy. He is still a stud, just an overpaid one. He has I think a full NTC/NMC.

It just doesn't make sense from the Tavares angle and I can't see the leafs asking.

Now if he starts to regress in a couple years and only has a year or two left? Maybe.
