Description
I assume it may be up in the air now that there is no coach, but I think Columbus ideally tries to have Frank discussions with him about if he's committed to clb this summer. Essentially by puck drop opening night I'd argue he should be resigned long term or traded.

I think you get more value for him in the summer and you don't need the question all year.

If you do trade him and are willing to retain the return can be insanely high. Really any contender who thinks their blue line needs an upgrade. I'm just putting TBL as an example

Yeah Tampa isn't giving up a boatload of futures for a player they can't afford long term, There's noway Tampa can afford to give Seth Jones the money he will command.

Look how much they paid for Savard. There is no comparison between Savard and Jones. But more importantly they're a place holder for any contender. A Norris level contender at 2.7 mil is valuable.

Say Jones comes with an extension he's like 25/26...so 8X8 you trade them McDonough, Cernak, forwards with cap and forwards with potential, I mean it would be worth it to have HEDMAN and Jones on the top pair with sergachev and someone behind.

Jones will get at least 10 mil on the open market and more from the Jackets. If the Jackets did trade Jones it would have to be for a top center and a lot of other assets. TB just doesn’t have the pieces to make this work.

I suspect you may have to more take a bunch of firsts instead of a top c as a top c has to be available. Maybe a top c prospect like perfetti if a wpg trade.

But my point is, I think Jarmo has to have a frank conversation and if he isn't signing move him and get his max value that way. Losing him as a Ufa has to be not allowed

That would be an embarrassment of riches in tb, where does Jones call home Denver? I wonder if there is a team where he could be a final piece type deal. I’m a Jets fan and would love a Jones add, we are light on the center to trade, but the prospect pool is healthy and still have our own picks. Just not sure on the longterm contract getting done with Jones. I wonder if colombus does the sell off and try to build again

There's a story of Popeye (Seth's dad) approaching sakic about Seth wanting to play hockey, while Popeye played for the nuggets.

I even remember rumours (I think they were just tying to make news, pretending the avs ever considered anyone besides MacKinnon) that the avs may choose Jones over MacKinnon. I was shocked on draft Day that fell to 4th. Barkov has clearly turned out awesome at 2 but Drouin was a miss at 3 over him.

But when I checked, Popeye is a coach for the 76ers so presumably he lives in Philly now not Denver.

I think wpg makes a tonne of sense, but without a young c, it would start with perfetti instead

I would say that a Jack Eichel trade would be in a similar vein in that, Buffalo getting alot of picks and perhaps B level roster players but every time, that gets shot down here on Capfriendly.

I think you have a point about loading up on picks, especially picks for 22/23 since those drafts are supposed to be better than 21.

No. Stop right there. We're not trading Jones prematurely for anything other than exactly what we need, which is a #1C. Any proposals involving anything else only come into play months later, after this offseason, if it becomes clear to us he doesn't want to stick around. Note "to US", not "to fans of other teams who badly want to poach him."

I disagree and not because I think my team will get him.

I think Jarmo has to have a frank talk with him and see if he wants to commit or not this summer. If he does sign him. If not trade him now for max value.

I think value is higher now than during the season as the receiving team gets a full season of him. As well you don't need the drama all season of will he sign or not.

In regards to getting a young 1c, the reason I don't think you can get one in return isn't because he doesn't deserve one, it's because I can't think of one in the league to target.

The closest I can think of is Hughes and he isn't available. After that, I can't think of one, can you?
