Hertl is a really good idea imo for the Rangers, but I think it will take more than the proposed offer or maybe different pieces.

IIRC Getzlaf has said it's Ducks or retirement.

The only other team I could see him signing with is Pitt because of his connections with the new management

Chytil and the 1st would be the basis of the trade, then it probably takes someone like Brett Berard or Karl Henriksson. I had a conversation with a few Sharks fans the other day and that was our consensus after negotiating together

Hertl offer is close. Might be a bit light but given his current lack of term I'll agree it is fair

Chytil and 14ish pick is a pretty good starter for a rebuilding team but yeah likely needs a sweetener

Not really. I’m not even a Sharks fan, but a 1st in a weak draft and a 3C isn’t a great return for one of their two most valuable assets. Oh and now will come the hate about the massive upside of Chytil, but realistically in trade scenario the other team is going to counter he is a 30pt 3C. Everybody over values their own players I get it, but that package doesn’t get you Hertl in my opinion.

I'm a Sharks fan...

The 1st is 16th overall, and Chytil was on pace for 43p as 21 year old with good potential, if anyone counter argued that the 21 year old is only putting up .5p/gp, they would get laughed out of the room.

The ask that was talked about the most around the TDL was Newhook + COL 1st, and that was before the deadline, when Hertl would have been worth more. Presumably the COL pick would be late 20s at least, so the difference between 16th + Chytil and ~30th + Newhook isn't dramatic, and considering the loss of value with the 2021 deadline passing, it makes sense.

This is presuming that Hertl is not extended, of course there will be a clause in there for another pick, probably another 1st if he is extended.

can't see in any world Brett Berard or Karl Henriksson making any difference in a Hertl trade, very little value between either of them.

I don't think those types of conditional draft picks are legal under the new CBA anymore.

*Furiously researches*

"God damn it, how did I not notice this."

well, in that case, it's a sign-and-trade or just make that other 1st into a 2nd.

Now you’re just making stuff up. Never, ever was there ever talk of the Avs acquiring Hertl and under zero circumstances would they have included Newhook in any talks if they ever existed. Also Chytil is a career in 186 games ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY SIX GAMES a .38ppg player or a 31pt per season for an 82 game season. And trying to equate Newhook’s value as the equivalent of moving up 14 spots you’re partaking in something illegal.

I'm not talking about you or the Avs saying that, I'm saying the general consensus among Sharks fan's and media was that was the ideal goal. Read again...

Also, that damn Chytil and his *squints* playing in the NHL since he was 18.

Chytil is Tyson Jost minus the defense (oh and being fair 4 more pts per season).
Chytil 2017 draft - Jost 2016
Chytil .38 ppg - Jost 0.34 ppg careers
Chtyl 47.2 CF% - Jost 50.3 careers
Chytil 11.6 XGF - Jost 15.6
Chytil 6.4 XGA - Jost 4.7
Chytil 5.2 XGD - Jost 10.9

So you’d be ok with a middle of the round 1st and Jost for Hertl?

Thats one hell of a bias if you think Jost is worth as much as Chytil.
Chytil.PNGJost.PNG

Not to mention Chytil is 1 1/2 years younger than Jost.

Also you should read the rest of the thread where I said that the assumption that he wasn't going to be extended, if he was going to be extended, then I would say it WOULD cost another 2nd or 1st.

Was basing it off of Binnington's after winning the cup.
