I don't see Seattle taking Skjei without CAR adding a major sweetener. Too many other Dmen out there that are A.) Cheaper and B.) Better.

Dude Gardiner is trash. He gave up an easy goal last night cause he is too slow. He can't really play offense and we gave him a chance last night to shine, but he has continuously proven he can't. We need to buy him out this offseason.

I simply disagree. He's ok at being a defensive Dman, but he's still $5.25M against the cap. Seattle doesn't need to waste that kind of cap space when they 30 other teams to pick lower cost Dmen from. And I do think they can find a better defensive Dmen too.

His buyout isn't bad, but what do you think Carolina would be willing to give up to trade him instead?

is he slightly over-priced sure. Is he a top 4 defender, who is big, can skate, and provide some offense, yes. Not many options available from other teams that can do that. That is why Skjei has been the consensus pick among the 'experts' not just ACGMers. The Islanders are probably the best option for a defender. After that it is us. Colorado will protect their big 4. Minnesota will try to find a way to move / protect Dumba. Who else has the better option?

Seattle has A LOT of options and I'm NOT saying Skjei belongs in the AHL. I'm saying he's not worth anything close to $5.25M and what he provides...can be provided by others.

I just did a quick scan through and clearly I don't have everyone's protected lists, but no one officially has that yet. Attempted Alphabetical options MIGHT BE. Connor Clifton, Risto, Chris Tanev, Zadorov, Graves, Gavrikov, Nutivaara, Dumba, Fabro, Leddy, Hagg, Dunn, (either Cernak, Foote), Dermott, Dillon, Stanely.

None of this even factors in free agents. Oleksiak, Edler, Martinez, Cole, Vat, Barrie, Goligoski.

It's darn near impossible IMO to not find 10-13 better options on this list (23 in total just spit balling). Not all of them are as physical. I'm not suggesting these are perfect comps, BUT you don't need 6 physical Defensive Dmen...you probably need 2 or 3. AND you need some puck movers too....which definitely is NOT Brady Skjei.

If you think half of those options are either available or better than Skjei then I cant help you. WOw

You're bias is definitely showing. $5.25M for a guy that's replaceable is NOT good.

he is only replaceable by offensive leaning metrics when Skjei isnt given much. But go on.

No, I think we're good. Seattle should just take Foegele unless a sizable package is coming with Skjei. We both agree Skjei is replaceable offensively....as you stated above and is pretty clear IMO from on the ice performance. I personally don't think his defensive game is worth $5.25M per year for 3 more years. Seattle should sign a guy like Oleksiak or Matrtinez and take one of Cernak/Graves, or even Zadorov to a much lesser extent. Then Seattle still has the ability to work out deals for the top tier Dmen like Dumba or maybe one of the NSH defenders, but NSH might go 8 instead. This also allows the Seattle to take a few more risks on younger more cost controlled guys like Dunn/Clifton.

No I don’t agree. He is better offensively than he is able to show because he gets the highest level of defensive zone starts on the team. Then add in his skating, zone exits, and size.
