I’m a big fan of Bertuzzi, but if I’m CBJ, I don’t give you a second, ask for you to add your 2021 2nd.

Still, Jesus…if CBJ had four first rounders this year…

I don't disagree, but he's 23 and just tons of potential. We need a Mantha replacement to at least give us some size.

I think at best we would agree to just exclude the 2nd altogether.

I just don’t think that’s the best package they could get for Laine, then. Cause I’d also/either ask for Berggren…

Don't think the Wings have enough depth to give both Bert and Berg. The price for Laine, I would assume, is much reduced based on his last year and a half of play and shenanigans.

If by year and a half it’s more “two or three months.” Take out March and April and he’s a near PPG guy over the past now two seasons.

Ehhh, I'm giving him a generous curve playing with Wheeler and Scheif and Ehlers on that PP...he is a top pick that was traded by the team that chose him and now quickly on the outs with his 2nd team. Any team would be foolish to overpay for Laine at this point, regardless of how promising he may be.

How often is a PPG, #2 pick traded by their own org even before he hits his prime....never. Shenanigans is an accurate word.

I don’t disagree with you on the shenanigans. Mind you, he was traded for the guy who was picked right behind him, so we know that **** left and right.

Problem is, what I’m reading here is “I discount his productivity when he’s playing with good players, but I don’t discount his (lack of) productivity when he’s playing with bad players.” Even for a “PPG, #2 pick…before his prime,” as you put it.

Can’t have your cake (trading for a guy you slot on your top-line and expect to get you back to the playoffs) and eat it too (trade and sign him for below-market value).

Sure but you can't have Berggren. And Bertuzzi, And a first. For a guy who's now engineered his way off of two teams...

Then this ACGM don’t work, my man 🤷‍♂️. CBJ ain’t trading him for that little, and Laine ain’t signing for that little.

If Jarmo is trading Laine, at minimum he needs to get what he would’ve gotten for Dubois had he not hissy-fitted his way out of town.

Laine’s QO is $7.5M. I’m willing to bet that he is, at worst, going to just accept two QO’s and hit UFA, if nobody is willing to give him the long-term contract he wants. It’s ****ty, yes, but also can’t blame the guy.

Don't care what he makes. He's not worth a first, Bertuzzi and Berggren right now. He's too unstable and no one's going to risk that much of their future on a flake.

Not quite. He's an RFA and can just hold CBJ hostage for as long as he wants. CBJ is going to have to decide if they want to lose him for nothing or want to get what they can. He is absolutely going to return less than he's "worth"...without a doubt.
