Flames Sabres Flyers Wheeling and Dealing

Created by: RoadRunner72
Team: 2020-21 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: May 12, 2021
Published: May 12, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A bit of a twist on an earlier post. Flames need a different look for next season, Eichel is the big fish. I think there's a fit. Can't imagine the Sabres trading within their own division or giving their best player to the cross-state rival Rangers unless the offer is huge.

Not sure what Gaudreau is worth on the market but I'll take a shot. Likely the Flyers would need to add a prospect, and i'm not sure how Gaudreau would fit within their cap.

That offer would be among the best for Eichel. Only issue is Monahan has a modified NTC. I think everyone with any sort of trade protection will have Buffalo on the no trade list.

Similar to what i had in mind, replace Valimaki with Dube for what I was thinking.

Your lines could definitely use some work though, Lindholm's staying at the center position for sure

That is definitely worth considering, Maybe a 3-way trade that sends Monahan to a contender that cant stay in the bidding war for Eichel? Boston maybe?

Hadn't notice that but good point. Unfortunately Sabres ownership has not created a very welcoming spot. Too bad it's a great fan base.

Ya it is unfortunate. Really hope they can turn the perception around but it's going to take time.

Like LedgeandDairy said, a 3rd team getting involved could make something work.

Yes i didn't work very hard on the lines, it's a bit shaky. Agreed on Lindholm, I think Eichel-Lindholm-Backlund down the middle is pretty solid. I've seen some trade scenarios for Eichel with Tkachuk and/or Lindholm going back to Buffalo but I think those are the 2 forward pieces the Flames are going to build around going forward. Can't see them being moved.

Agree that a 3rd partner may be the solution to make it work. I can't really wrap my head around 3-way trades, it always seems one of the teams is getting fleeced. Considering what Colorado got for Duchene (who was never on Eichel's level) there should be a really solid 3-way deal out there if the Sabres are patient.

I've stated it a few times between here and HFBoards. If Buffalo decides to sell off Eichel, Reinhart, and Risto (which I'm really starting to think is likely now) they can't be looking at a band-aid solution. They have to scorch earth and build almost entirely around Dahlin, Jokiharju, and Cozens. Requesting a Laine, Tkachuk, McAvoy, Larkin type player isn't going to work because that player is going to force their way out of town ASAP via Arbitration. Then they are left in an even worse situation. They need to look almost strictly at futures like what Ottawa did with EK65. Sure they got Tierney he's not the main piece (they also werent expecting a top 5 pick though so keep that in mind). Looking at it now one of the main pieces Ottawa got in that trade was Josh Norris, 19th OA pick in 2017 that had lots of potential.

In our scenario Connor Zary is your Josh Norris, Zary is 6th in ppg in the WHL (he got injured while red hot though so he's played 10 less games than the points leaders) and had 6 points in 9 AHL games as a 19 year old. On top of that we are looking at a guaranteed 7th-13th OA pick (depending on how the remaining games play out), That pick could also win the lotto too. Worst case you are looking at a Mason McTavish or Fabian Lysell.

Well the concept is its kind of 2 trades just combined for simplicity sake. For example Boston's top 2 centers are both 34+ now and Krejci is expiring this year, he is still a very good player but they may want to consider getting younger. What if they flipped DeBrusk in a 1st for Monahan and then Calgary sent DeBrusk and either Boston's 1st or their 2022 1st to Buffalo instead of Monahan in your deal. This is strictly hypothetical of course

Maybe this trade works if it's Lindholm instead of Monahan, avoids the NTC.

If I'm Buffalo any Calgary deal has to start with Tkachuk.

I believe the Flyers would pass on this. We have so many wingers as it is, we would want to move one out in a deal for JG.
